The Hallow

A radiant scar of pastel light that blooms when the world breaks

Once you enter hallowed land, you will see a rainbow in the sky. I can help you with painting that if you want. — The Painter The Hallow is a Hardmode surface biome characterized by pastel-colored fairytale graphics, with cyan-colored grass , multicolored trees , and a large rainbow in the background, as well as similarly whimsical-looking (though quite dangerous) enemies . The Underground Hallow biome can be found directly beneath a naturally-generated Hallow biome. The Hallow does not exist in newly generated worlds, with the exception of select special or secret world seeds . When the Wall of Flesh is defeated for the first time and the world converts to Hardmode, a diagonal stripe of the Hallow biome extending from the surface to the bottom of the world will be generated, converting all applicable tiles to their Hallowed variant. This initial conversion can replace preexisting sections of the world's " evil biome " ( Corruption or Crimson ). If areas of the Jungle or Glowing Mushroom biome are included in the conversion area, Stone will be converted, but grass on Mud Blocks will be unaffected. Once generated, the Hallow spreads in a manner similar to the evil biomes; Pearlstone , Pearlsand , and dirt blocks growing Hallowed grass will spread Hallow to neighboring blocks , causing Hallow enemies to spawn over ever-larger areas. Hallow can also be seeded in new areas via Hallowed Seeds , Holy Water , or Blue Solution . See below or the Biome spread page for more details. The Hallow, unlike Crimson and Corruption, cannot spread through mud areas such as those found in Jungles or Glowing Mushroom biomes , and Sunflowers can stop its surface spreading like they would stop the spread of evil biomes in pre-hardmode. The Dryad can tell the player the percentage of Hallow an

Lore & Background

When the Wall of Flesh falls and the ancient seal shatters, a diagonal stripe of impossible radiance tears through the earth. This is the Hallow, not merely a biome but a divine intervention that converts stone to pearl and grass to cyan. Unlike the creeping rot of Corruption or Crimson, this force arrives as a sudden, blinding revelation, painting the sky with perpetual rainbows and filling the air with the hum of crystalline magic. It is a place where danger wears a mask of whimsy, hiding lethal intent behind pastel hues and fairy-tale aesthetics.

The Dryad speaks of it as "good," yet she knows it is not pure until all taints are gone. The Hallow does not seek to consume the world in darkness but to overwrite it with its own blinding order. It refuses to touch the muddy depths of the Jungle or Glowing Mushroom biomes, respecting their ancient boundaries even as it devours stone and sand. Here, unicorns roam the fields and pixies dance among multicolored trees, but this beauty is a trap for the unprepared. The land itself is a deceptive paradise, where every shimmering leaf and glowing slime carries the weight of Hardmode's relentless escalation.

As time passes, this radiant infection spreads with a slow, inevitable grace, turning entire regions into a kaleidoscope of light. It creates a sanctuary for those who can survive its trials, offering resources of unparalleled value and weapons forged from starlight itself. Yet it remains a reminder that in Terraria, even the most beautiful things are born from destruction, a testament to the world's constant cycle of ruin and rebirth.

In Their Own Story

You step across the boundary where the gray stone ends and the cyan grass begins. The air instantly grows lighter, humming with a strange, crystalline frequency. Above, a massive rainbow arcs across the sky, its colors so vivid they seem to bleed into reality. A unicorn trots past, its horn gleaming like polished silver, but you do not lower your guard. In this land of deceiving looks, beauty is the first weapon.

Suddenly, the ground trembles. A Light Mummy emerges from a patch of pearlescent sand, its tattered bandages glowing with an ethereal blue light. It does not attack with rage, but with a terrifying serenity that chills your blood. You raise your weapon as pixies dart around you, their laughter sounding like shattering glass. The rainbows in the background seem to pulse in time with your heartbeat. You realize too late that this paradise demands a price. A massive silhouette looms above—a Queen Slime, her body a shifting mass of translucent gel and joyous violence. She hovers, waiting for you to make the first move, ready to turn your adventure into a spectacle of light and pain.

Reader's Guide

The Hallow appears automatically upon defeating the Wall of Flesh, manifesting as a diagonal stripe that converts existing terrain. Identify it by its cyan grass, multicolored trees, and the permanent rainbow in the background. It spreads via Pearlstone, Pearlsand, and Hallowed grass but cannot convert Mud blocks found in Jungles or Glowing Mushroom biomes.

Prepare for whimsical yet deadly foes including Pixies, Unicorns, Gastropods, and the formidable Queen Slime and Empress of Light. The latter appears only at night after Plantera is defeated; defeating her during daytime yields the Terraprisma. At night, shaking trees may summon Blue, Green, or Pink Fairies.

Harvest resources like Pearlwood, Dragon Fruit, Star Fruit, and Light Shards. Defeating enemies has a 1/2500 chance to drop the Hallowed Key for the Dungeon's locked chest. Craft the Crystal Assassin armor, acquire wings from the Empress of Light, or farm Prismatic Lacewings post-Plantera for her summoning item.

Construct artificial biomes using at least 125 Hallowed blocks to access unique spawns and NPCs like the Nurse, Wizard, and Party Girl who thrive here. Utilize Sunflowers to halt surface spread if containment is needed, or use Blue Solution and Holy Water to expand your territory.
