Jungle
Where mud births life and thorns guard ancient secrets
The Jungle is a surface biome composed primarily of Mud Blocks with Jungle grass and Jungle vines , with a dark green background. Mahogany trees are abundant there, as they grow automatically on Jungle grass, though traditional Acorns can also be planted. Moreover, many pools of water can be found in the Jungle, often with several Bamboo stalks. The Underground Jungle is found just below the Jungle, beginning at cavern depths. The Jungle is one of the more challenging surface biomes, especially at the beginning of the game. Jungle enemies have much more health and deal more damage than those typically found in other surface areas. In Hardmode , the Jungle becomes substantially harder with more powerful enemies. Additionally, the spread of the Corruption / Crimson endangers the Jungle – they may eventually completely overtake it, given enough time. Essential items from the Jungle are then more difficult to acquire, as the biome's enemies no longer spawn and exclusive plants like Life Fruit no longer grow. Defeating Plantera will slow down the spread of the Corruption/Crimson by 50%. Players can seed new Jungle areas by planting Jungle Grass Seeds in Mud Blocks. Jungle grass spreads much more slowly than ordinary grass. A Jungle biome requires a minimum of 140 Jungle-related tiles (141 are needed for the background to change), which includes Jungle grass blocks, Jungle plants, Lihzahrd Bricks , and Hive blocks. - 1 Contents - 2 NPC happiness - 3 Tips 3.1 Pre-Hardmode - 3.2 Hardmode - 4 Trivia - 5 Gallery 5.1 Backgrounds - 6 History - 7 References
Lore & Background
Beneath a canopy of emerald mahogany, the Jungle breathes with a primal rhythm unknown to other lands. It is a realm where mud blocks serve as the foundation for vibrant grass and cascading vines, hiding pools of water that shimmer like liquid gems amidst towering bamboo stalks. This surface biome acts as a verdant shield, teeming with life from the chirping cockatiels of day to the shadowed giant flying foxes of night, yet it remains a fortress against the encroaching darkness of Corruption and Crimson. The very earth here resists the blight, though time and neglect can allow the evil biomes to strangle its roots, silencing the unique flora like Life Fruit before they ever bear their golden fruit.
Deep within this tangle lies an ancient power waiting to be awakened by those brave enough to venture beneath. The surface is merely a veil; true secrets rest in the caverns below where Lihzahrd bricks and hive blocks hint at a forgotten civilization. Here, the air grows thick with humidity and danger, as jungle slimes bounce with deceptive innocence while piranhas snap from the murky waters. To conquer this biome is to tame its chaos, slowing the spread of evil by defeating Plantera and unlocking the path to deeper mysteries. It is a place where survival demands respect for every thorn and shadow, rewarding the vigilant with tools forged from nature's own fury.
In Their Own Story
You step onto the soft, spongy mud, the air instantly heavy with the scent of wet earth and blooming moonglow. Above, mahogany leaves filter the sunlight into a dappled green haze, masking the eyes of a jungle bat swooping silently from the canopy. A sudden splash breaks your concentration as an angler fish lunges from a nearby pool, its scales glinting like obsidian. You dodge back, heart hammering against your ribs, only to hear the low growl of a giant tortoise shuffling through the ferns.
Night falls with unnatural speed, transforming the vibrant greens into deep, suffocating shadows. The chirping of macaws ceases, replaced by the eerie screech of a giant flying fox circling overhead like a vulture sensing weakness. You crouch behind a thick vine as a zombie shambles past, its tattered clothes stained with mud. In this moment, the Jungle feels less like a place and more like a living entity testing your resolve. The water ripples again, and you see the glint of a jungle key in the dark depths, a promise of power that demands a price paid in blood and caution.
Reader's Guide
The Jungle is identified by its dark green background, abundant mud blocks covered in jungle grass, and towering mahogany trees. It always generates on the opposite side of the world from the Dungeon and Snow biome, often sharing a border with the Underground Desert.
Pre-Hardmode exploration requires caution; enemies here possess significantly higher health and damage than surface norms. Wear at least Silver or Tungsten armor before venturing in. Avoid knocking down Bee Hives, as swarming bees can overwhelm unprepared adventurers. For early-game gear, fish in Jungle water using a Reinforced Fishing Pole to harvest Jungle Crates containing powerful items like the Boomstick without fighting.
In Hardmode, avoid the surface unless necessary, as enemies become lethal and drop the rare Jungle Key needed for the Dungeon's Jungle Chest. Prioritize building NPC housing deep underground to utilize the Jungle Pylon and avoid infection by Corruption or Crimson. Farm for the Uzi and Turtle Shells here if you have defeated mechanical bosses, but remember that Plantera must be defeated before acquiring Leaf Wings or the Hercules Beetle.
Harvest rich resources such as bamboo, mangoes, pineapples, and herbs like moonglow and jungle rose. Use a Lihzahrd Furnace only after defeating Golem to craft end-game items. If the biome is threatened by evil spread, defeat Plantera to slow the corruption and preserve this vital resource hub.
