Jungle Temple
An ancient stone cage sealed until the Jungle's heart beats anew
The Jungle Temple (also known as the Lihzahrd Temple or simply The Temple ) is a large, enclosed structure constructed out of Lihzahrd Bricks and located in the Underground Jungle . It is always present in any generated world, but can only be properly entered after Plantera has been defeated. The Jungle Temple contains unique Lihzahrd-themed enemies , traps , and furniture . The Lihzahrd Furnace , a crafting station for further Lihzahrd-themed furniture, can be found in its Chests . The Lihzahrd Altar found in the Temple's final chamber is used to summon the Golem boss . Defeating Golem triggers the spawning of Cultists , used to summon the Lunar Events . The Temple is entered via the Lihzahrd Door located at one of its two top corners. The door is initially locked, requiring a Temple Key to open, which is dropped by Plantera. Unlocking the door consumes one Temple Key from the player's inventory, and the door remains permanently unlocked for all players in the world. It is generally impossible to enter the Temple via any other conventional means since Lihzahrd Bricks can only be mined with at least the Picksaw dropped by Golem, and Lihzahrd Brick Walls impose numerous restrictions, e.g. on Teleporter use. There are, however, several methods to enter the temple prior to defeating Plantera . The Temple's entrance leads to a long corridor that winds downward through several chambers, ending in a large room at the bottom containing the Lihzahrd Altar . The Altar can be used to summon Golem at the cost of one Lihzahrd Power Cell . Lihzahrd Power Cells are guaranteed to be found in the Temple's Lihzahrd Chests and are also dropped randomly by the Temple's Lihzahrds and Flying Snakes . The entire Temple is filled with several types of traps , including Flame , Spear , Spiky B
Lore & Background
Deep within the verdant chaos of the Underground Jungle lies a fortress forgotten by time, constructed from impenetrable Lihzahrd Bricks. This sanctuary of the lizard folk stands as a silent monument to an era before human expansion, its corridors humming with the latent energy of ancient mechanisms and deadly traps. The air inside is heavy with the scent of ozone and dust, guarding secrets that only yield to those who have proven their worth against the Plantera's wrath.
The Temple serves as both a prison and a temple to the Golem, a colossal guardian summoned by the Lihzahrd Altar in the deepest chamber. Before the great bloom fades, the heavy doors remain shut, bound by magical locks that only the key dropped by the defeated botanical horror can break. It is a place where wires weave through stone like veins of lightning, and statues watch with unblinking eyes, waiting for an intruder to trigger their fatal response.
Once the barrier falls, the path leads downward through winding halls filled with Lihzahrds and serpentine Flying Snakes, all protecting the final ritual site. Here, the power cells lie in wait within chests, ready to awaken the stone giant. Defeating this guardian does not merely end a battle; it shatters the ancient seal that kept the Celestial Cultists dormant, ushering in an era of cosmic conflict where the very sky begins to bleed.
In Their Own Story
You stand before the Lihzahrd Door, its surface cold and unyielding against your palm. The key you hold feels heavy, a trophy from the battle with Plantera that still echoes in your mind. With a turn of the wrist, the lock clicks, the ancient mechanism groaning as it yields for the first time in millennia. You step into the corridor, the air instantly growing cooler and drier.
Lihzahrd eyes gleam from the shadows, their green scales catching the dim light of your torch. A spear trap whirs to life, the metal tip snapping inches from your face before you can dodge. You press onward, heart pounding, navigating a labyrinth of pressure plates and dart traps that seem to breathe with a malicious intent. The walls close in, lined with statues of lizard kings and watchers that seem to track your every movement.
Finally, you reach the bottom chamber. The Lihzahrd Altar looms in the center, dark and imposing. You place the Power Cell, feeling the ground tremble as stone grinds against stone. From the shadows emerges Golem, a titan of rock and fire, ready to defend its sanctum one last time before the world changes forever.
Reader's Guide
To reach the Jungle Temple, first locate the Underground Jungle biome, often marked by dense vines and mud blocks. The entrance is a Lihzahrd Door found at one of the two top corners of the structure, which generates deep underground. Note that in rare cases, it may generate partially outside the jungle or on the surface in special seeds.
Before entering, ensure you have defeated Plantera to obtain the Temple Key. Without this key, the door remains locked. Once inside, proceed with extreme caution; the temple is densely wired with traps including Flame, Spear, Spiky Ball, and Super Dart mechanisms. Use Dangersense Potions to highlight hazards or disable them by removing wires after defeating Golem.
Enemies within include Lihzahrds and Flying Snakes, which can be lethal with early-game gear. Harvest Lihzahrd Power Cells from chests or enemy drops to summon the Golem boss at the Altar. Inside, you will find Lihzahrd Chests containing unique loot like the Picksaw, Heat Ray, and Stynger. The Lihzahrd Furnace found in chests can be sold for profit or used to craft temple furniture. Remember that Lihzahrd Bricks can only be mined with a Picksaw or better, making escape difficult without proper tools.
