Oasis
A turquoise sanctuary hidden within the scorching desert sands
The Oasis is a naturally spawning mini-biome that can be found on the Surface layer of the Desert biome. It consists of a sizable body of water surrounded by multiple palm trees and shrubbery such as mini cacti, ferns, and flowers. Cattail plants grow in the lake and there are often multiple Dragonflies flying around and above the surface of the water. The water of the Oasis is a turquoise color, just like that of regular surface Desert water. An Oasis Water Fountain can be purchased in order to replicate this water color at a location of choice. As a mini-biome, the Oasis is not considered to be a separate biome from the Desert: the Oasis counts as a Desert in terms of an NPC 's preferred biome, the Oasis will spawn Desert-exclusive critters and enemies , and fishing in an Oasis will yield the same results as fishing in a Desert. Thus, it is possible to create an artificial Oasis by placing water in the surface layer of a Desert biome. - 1 Contents - 2 Notes - 3 Tips - 4 Gallery - 5 History
Lore & Background
Though it appears as a solitary refuge, the Oasis often exists in clusters, scattered across the world like forgotten jewels. Some say these pockets were formed when ancient leviathans wept upon the land, leaving behind tears of pure hydration. The water holds more than just respite; it cradles the rare Pupfish and the elusive Rock Lobster, creatures that have adapted to thrive in this singular environment. Even the skulls of great beasts rest here as silent monuments, warning that while the Oasis offers life, the desert still claims its due. It is a fragile balance, a temporary truce between fire and fluid.
In Their Own Story
You stand at the edge of the dunes, your skin burning under the harsh glare, until the air suddenly shifts. A cool breeze carries the faint scent of wet stone and blooming ferns. Pushing through a curtain of swaying palm fronds, you stumble into the Oasis. The world turns turquoise as your eyes adjust to the shimmering water that cuts through the sand like a vein of sapphire. Dragonflies zip past your face, their hum a gentle counterpoint to the silence of the desert. You wade in, the cool liquid soothing your fevered skin, and watch as a Grebe glides effortlessly across the surface. For a moment, the threat of the Scorpion and the heat of the sun fade away. You are safe here, cradled by the palms and the gentle lap of waves, until the shadows lengthen and the true nature of this fragile paradise reminds you that no sanctuary in Terraria lasts forever.
Reader's Guide
To find an Oasis, scan the Surface layer of any Desert biome for a distinct patch of turquoise water surrounded by palm trees, mini cacti, and ferns. These biomes are rare; small worlds may have up to two, while large ones can hold four, though some worlds generate none at all.
While generally peaceful, the Oasis spawns standard Desert enemies like Scorpions and Hornets alongside unique critters such as Black, Orange, and Yellow Dragonflies. Be wary of animal skulls that spawn as background objects; they do not respawn once destroyed but serve as eerie reminders of past dangers.
Fishing here yields exclusive rewards unavailable in standard Desert water. Cast your line to catch the Pupfish, Flounder, Rock Lobster, or Scarab Fish. In Pre-Hardmode, you may pull up an Oasis Crate containing the Heroicis set and wings (currently inactive), while Hardmode offers Mirage Crates with the Magic Conch for instant Ocean travel. Always open Oysters found in crates to retrieve Pearls for Luck Potions.
Players can replicate this haven by placing water in a Surface Desert, creating artificial biomes that function identically for NPC housing and fishing.

- Oysters caught here always yield Shucked Oysters, though their Well Fed buff is weaker than other Oasis fish.
