Lore & Background

In the shattered age of Hardmode, where the earth bleeds iron and the sky forgets its stars, a new horror awakens from the depths of industry. The Twins are not born of flesh or bone, but forged in the fires of a forgotten machine god, a grotesque evolution of the ancient Eye of Cthulhu. They drift through the night as a singular entity of two distinct souls: Retinazer, the crimson sentinel of precision, and Spazmatism, the green-eyed harbinger of cursed fire. Connected by a sinewy tendril that pulses with mechanical life, they represent the duality of destruction—one seeking to pierce your soul with lasers, the other to consume you in an inferno.

When the status message warns of a terrible night, the air grows heavy with ozone and the scent of burning embers. These mechanical titans do not merely hunt; they orchestrate. As their health wanes below forty percent, they shed their organic disguises like molting serpents to reveal their true, terrifying forms. Retinazer unveils a cannon of unblinking accuracy, while Spazmatism opens a maw that breathes endless streams of Cursed Inferno. To face them is to stand against the very heartbeat of a world turning mechanical, where survival depends on outmaneuvering the relentless rhythm of their combined assault.

In Their Own Story

The clock strikes seven-thirty, and the sky darkens not with clouds, but with an unnatural stillness. A whisper rides the wind: 'This is going to be a terrible night...' You grip your weapon, eyes scanning the horizon where two pinpricks of light begin to burn brighter than any star. Suddenly, they descend—Retinazer with its blood-red iris and Spazmatism with its sickly green glow, tethered together by a writhing cord of steel and sinew.

They circle you, a dance of death performed in the vacuum of space. Retinazer hovers diagonally above, firing purple lasers that slice through the darkness, while Spazmatism races along your horizontal plane, spitting balls of Cursed Flame that leave trails of green fire on the ground. You dash left, then right, feeling the heat of their breath as they charge in bursts of terrifying speed. The tendril connecting them snaps and reforms as they twist through the air, a chaotic ballet of red and green.

Then comes the shift. Their health dips, and with a sickening mechanical screech, they shed their outer layers. Retinazer becomes a cannon-eyed monstrosity, firing barrages of pinpoint lasers that never miss, while Spazmatism transforms into a gaping maw, chasing you relentlessly with a stream of fire that turns the night into day. You are trapped between the laser and the flame, the only hope being to outlast their fury until one eye finally shatters, leaving the other to fall alone.

Reader's Guide

Summon The Twins by using a Mechanical Eye at night between 7:30 PM and 4:30 AM. If you wait for natural spawning, listen for 'This is going to be a terrible night...' at dusk; ensure you remain on the Surface layer until 8:51 PM, or they will vanish. Failure to defeat them before dawn causes them to flee.

Construct a multi-tiered arena with long horizontal platforms and multiple layers of skybridge to facilitate vertical dodging. Remove background walls if possible to prevent interference. Equip wings for superior mobility, as both eyes require constant movement to survive their charge phases.

In the first phase, Retinazer stays diagonally above you firing lasers, while Spazmatism charges horizontally in rapid bursts. Dodge by moving vertically against Retinazer's aim and horizontally against Spazmatism's charges. Watch for the Cursed Inferno debuff from Spazmatism's green flames.

Once an eye drops below 40% health, it transforms into its second form with increased defense. Retinazer stops charging and fires rapid barrages of Death Lasers; stay vertically aligned to minimize exposure during bursts. Spazmatism becomes a mouth that chases you continuously, alternating between high-speed charges and spewing Cursed Flames like a flamethrower. Prioritize killing one eye completely before focusing on the other.
