Lore & Background
Deep within the verdant heart of the Jungle lies a forgotten sanctuary, sealed by Lihzahrd masonry that predates the world itself. Here rests the Golem, a construct of stone and magic designed to guard secrets even the ancient builders feared to unlock. It slumbers eternally until an intruder dares to feed it a Power Cell, igniting its core with dormant fury. This sentinel does not distinguish between friend or foe; it only recognizes the weight of conquest.
Upon defeat, the seal breaks further. The Golem’s fall signals that the world is ready for greater threats. Its destruction ripples outward, awakening Cultists at the Dungeon and signaling the Martian probes to scan the skies. It is merely a gatekeeper, standing between the jungle's ancient past and the celestial storms approaching from beyond the moon. To slay it is to accept the final challenge of this realm before the heavens themselves descend in war.
The heavy stone music echoes as you stand victorious, knowing the temple has yielded its greatest secret. Yet whispers speak of a lunar cult gathering at the Dungeon entrance, waiting for your signal to begin the end times.
In Their Own Story
You step into the final chamber, the air thick with humidity and ancient dust. The Lihzahrd Altar hums with latent energy as you place the Power Cell into its slot. A deep rumble shakes the floor, and stone grinds against stone as the Golem rises above the altar. Its single eye flares with orange light, scanning your presence with mechanical indifference.
Fireballs arc through the air, leaving trails of heat that singe your armor. You dodge the stomping fists, feeling the ground quake beneath your boots. The head must fall first; you focus your weapons on that glowing core while avoiding the detached stone limbs that launch themselves at you. Once the head shatters, the body becomes vulnerable, its defenses lowered but its strength undiminished.
As it crumbles into dust, a strange silence falls over the temple. You have passed the test, but outside, the world has changed forever.
Reader's Guide
Summon Golem by using a Lihzahrd Power Cell on the Lihzahrd Altar in the Jungle Temple's final chamber. Ensure you are in Hardmode and have defeated Plantera first. Keep your arena within the Underground Jungle to prevent enrage, which speeds up jumps and eye beams.
Focus fire on the head initially; the body remains invincible until the head is destroyed. The fists do not need to be killed but will launch projectiles at you if positioned correctly. Dodge fireballs that inflict On Fire! debuffs by maintaining mobility or using water.
Recommended gear includes high defense armor and potions for sustained survival. Bring Greater Healing Potions as they drop from the boss, ensuring supply during the fray. Defeating Golem unlocks Lunar Events, Martian Madness, and Tier 3 Old One's Army content. Loot includes the Picksaw for mining Lihzahrd Bricks and Beetle Husks for endgame armor crafting.
Note that lava only damages the body when the head is detached, a unique mechanic shared only with King Slime. If you stray too far from the altar while fighting, Golem may despawn as distance is measured from its body despite the map icon showing the head. Prepare thoroughly before activating the cell.
Did You Know?
- Golem's map icon shows the head location, but it despawns based on distance from the body.
- Only Golem and King Slime take damage from lava, specifically when the body is exposed.
- The Lihzahrd Altar cannot be actuated until after Golem is defeated for the first time.
