The Pumpking can be rather two-faced, it seems. I shall not give up on peace with his spooky people! — The Princess The Pumpking is a Hardmode , post- Plantera mini-boss that spawns during the Pumpkin Moon event . He is the event's final enemy and can move freely through blocks . He is the equivalent to the Ice Queen from the Frost Moon , being the Pumpkin Moon's most powerful enemy, coming in at the last waves of the event, and being the event's only flying boss. Defeating the Pumpking during the Pumpkin Moon event will add 150 / 300 / 375 points to the final score, giving the most number of points for any enemy in the event. Like the Mourning Wood , the later the Pumpkin Moon wave in which the Pumpking is killed in, the more likely he is to drop items. Though The Princess hopes for peace with his kin, the Pumpking offers only the cold steel of his eternal blades and the searing heat of Greek Fire. His presence signals the climax of the night's terror, arriving as the final, most potent challenge against which all must stand.
In Their Own Story
As a Hardmode entity born from the event's thirteenth wave onward, he commands the air with an authority denied to lesser ghouls. His two faces reveal his intent: a sinister grin for melee slaughter, a grimace to launch deadly scythes, or a gasping 'O' to rain fire upon the earth. He moves through stone and soil as if they were mist, a ghostly monarch who cannot be bound by the world's physical laws. To defeat him is not just to survive the night, but to claim the spoils of a king, earning the right to wield his very essence in battle.
Reader's Guide
The air smells of rotting vines and burnt sugar as the Pumpking materializes from the shadows, his massive form displacing the moonlight. You stand your ground, wings humming softly, watching his head rotate with a sickening click that echoes in the silence. First comes the grin, a jagged promise of violence, as he hovers directly above you. His blade-arms swipe through the empty air where you stood only moments before, missing by an inch. You feel the heat of his proximity, a phantom pressure against your skin.
Suddenly, his expression shifts to a grimace. The yellow scythes materialize, hanging motionless in the air like suspended stars before beginning their deadly spin. They accelerate with a whirring scream, tearing through the ground where you crouched seconds prior. You dash upward, wings flaring, as the projectiles shatter the terrain beneath your feet. Then, the 'O' of surprise stretches his mouth wide, vomiting streams of Greek Fire that pool on the earth, glowing with an ominous yellow light. You weave between the lingering flames, knowing that one misstep means immolation. The Pumpking watches, unblinking, as you dance through his wrath.

- The Pumpking's main body can travel through blocks, making him one of only two Pumpkin Moon enemies with this trait alongside the Poltergeist.
- Despite its name, The Horseman's Blade drops from the Pumpking rather than a Headless Horseman entity.
- The Pumpking's cloak is a separate, harmless sprite that cannot take damage, while his head is the only part that can be hit.
