Lore & Background

Beyond the veil of the known universe, where stars burn with cold indifference, an advanced fleet seeks to harvest the very essence of worlds like Terraria. The Martian Saucer is not merely a war machine but a harbinger of the end times, arriving only after the planet has proven its resilience against lesser horrors. It hovers silently above the chaos of the Martian Madness event, a silent judgment that descends once the invasion reaches critical mass. Its hull gleams with an alien geometry, defying gravity and matter alike, passing through stone and earth as if they were mere mist.

Within its metallic belly lie four turrets of terrible precision, each tasked with dismantling the defenders below. As these weapons are shattered, the ship reveals its glowing core, a pulsating heart of exposed wiring that weeps sparks into the air. The Saucer does not merely fight; it adapts, shifting into a violent second phase where its core is laid bare for all to see. It unleashes the Martian Deathray, a beam of annihilation that pierces through solid ground, hunting the unwary with unerring accuracy. This machine of destruction leaves behind only scattered scraps and the faint hum of dying technology, a testament to a civilization far older and crueler than humanity.

In Their Own Story

The sky above your fortress darkens as the invasion reaches its zenith. A shadow detaches itself from the storm clouds, descending with impossible grace. The Martian Saucer hovers silently, its four turrets rotating with a menacing whir. You brace yourself, but the first volley of homing missiles tears through the air, exploding against the stone walls you built for protection. The ship remains stationary, its lasers painting the ground in searing yellow arcs where you stood moments before.

You dodge frantically as the Saucer shifts position, unleashing a torrent of rockets that shake the earth. With every turret destroyed, the alien vessel shrieks with the sound of tearing metal, sparks raining down like deadly confetti. The ship begins to jostle violently, its core exposed and pulsing with a blinding light. It repositions above you, left then right, before charging forward. A beam of pure energy erupts from beneath it, carving through the bedrock as if it were paper. You leap into the air, wings flaring, just as the Deathray sweeps past your boots, leaving nothing but scorched earth behind.

Reader's Guide

The Martian Saucer spawns automatically during the Martian Madness event once progress reaches at least thirty percent. No summon item is required; simply survive the invasion until the ship descends.

Prepare a large, flat arena with multiple layers of platforms to facilitate vertical movement. The boss passes through blocks and fires projectiles that pierce terrain, so walls offer little protection against direct hits.

For melee, use high mobility gear like the Tabi or Solar Flare armor to dash through deathrays. Ranged users should focus fire on turrets individually while maintaining altitude. Mages benefit from the Xeno Staff for homing support during the turret phase. Rogues can utilize the Influx Waver's teleportation to reposition quickly.

The battle cycles through three attacks: a laser volley, homing missiles, and a downward deathray. Destroy turrets first; they are replaced by hazardous falling scraps. In Expert and Master modes, expect a second phase where the core is exposed. The Saucer will jostle before sweeping with the Deathray. Position yourself directly above the boss or move in sync with its sweep while dashing to avoid the beam's lethal path.
