A colossal Chinese dragon ruling the Hardmode skies with unrivaled might

Lore & Background
The Wyvern moves with a fluid, undulating grace, its fifteen segments weaving through blocks as if they were mere mist. It is an immortal wanderer of the high altitude, refusing to follow prey beneath the earth's crust or into the safety of towns. Legends say that the Phantasm Dragons are merely the souls of these fallen giants summoned by powerful magic, a testament to their enduring legacy even in death. To encounter one is to witness the raw power of the sky itself, a creature immune to lava and capable of breathing fire upon those who dare challenge its aerial supremacy.
In Their Own Story
You ascend through the thin air, the ground falling away into a distant blur below. The stars seem closer here, but the silence is broken by a low, thrumming vibration that rattles your very bones. From the white mist emerges a shape of impossible length, a serpentine giant coiling through the void. Its eyes lock onto you with predatory intelligence, and it begins to descend, its body weaving through the solid rock as if it were water. You feel the pull of gravity shift as you try to flee, but the Wyvern matches your speed, its massive head rushing toward you with terrifying intent. You draw your weapon, knowing that a single collision could shatter your armor. The beast screams, a sound that echoes across the empty sky, and you realize too late that there is no escape from this aerial predator.
Reader's Guide
The Wyvern appears exclusively in the Space layer during Hardmode, provided no Town NPCs are nearby and no safe background walls exist at the player's center. It will not spawn inside the Dungeon biome or follow players underground, turning away if you descend too low.
This enemy possesses a Worm AI, moving in a sine-wave pattern with 15 segments. The head deals double contact damage but has lower defense than the body, while the tail is more durable. Wyverns are immune to lava and can fly through blocks, making them difficult to trap without specific tools.
To farm for their primary drop, the Soul of Flight (20–40 drops), use Water Candles at high altitudes to nearly double spawn rates. Combat requires piercing or explosive weapons like Jester's Arrows, Holy Arrows, or thrown flails such as the Sunfury. Thrown flails can often defeat them in a single hit due to their ability to strike multiple segments simultaneously. Alternatively, use Minecarts or the Unicorn Mount for speed, or match the Wyvern's descent with Gravitation Potions while attacking its vulnerable head.
