Goblin Scout
A lone sentinel of the distant shores seeking a war to ignite
The Goblin Scout is an uncommon pre-Hardmode enemy that spawns on the surface in the farthest edges of the player's world. It appears to be an enemy from the Goblin Army event , but it spawns during ordinary gameplay. The Tattered Cloth it drops is a component for the Goblin Battle Standard , which summons a Goblin Army. Goblin Scouts can only be found in the furthest east and furthest west sixths of the world. They will not spawn on Sand Blocks or on blocks infected by the Corruption , the Crimson or the Hallow and will only spawn during the day . It is one of the few entities that can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or its upgrades. - Item (Quantity) Rate - Tattered Cloth (1–2) 100% - Internal NPC ID : 73 - 1 Notes - 2 Tips - 3 Trivia - 4 History

Lore & Background
From the sun-scorched edges where the land meets the sea, the Goblin Scout emerges as a solitary harbinger of invasion. These are not mere raiders but forward operatives dispatched by an unseen army from beyond the horizon, tasked with scouting colonies ripe for conquest. Unlike their frenzied kin that swarm during the chaotic Goblin Army event, these scouts operate in the quiet daylight, moving with a calculated purpose across the furthest reaches of the world. They carry tattered sigils, remnants of a distant conflict, which they drop not as spoils but as blueprints for the war to come.
The presence of a Scout signals that the goblin forces are already aware of your settlement. Their spawning is tied to ancient rhythms; if the shadows have been pierced by breaking an Orb or Heart, their numbers swell threefold, sensing vulnerability in the land. They avoid the corrupted earth and the hallowed sands, preferring the pristine forests of the world's extremities. To the unwary traveler, they appear as a simple nuisance, yet to the seasoned adventurer, finding one is the first step toward summoning an army that will test every wall and weapon in their arsenal.
In Their Own Story
The sun hung high over the eastern ocean, casting long shadows across the grassy plains where the world ended. You walked the edge of the map, the sound of crashing waves your only companion, until a flicker of movement caught your eye. There, standing alone against the horizon, was a Goblin Scout. He did not charge immediately but observed you with a sharp, predatory gaze, his red skin gleaming in the midday light. In his hand, he clutched a spear that seemed too large for his small frame.
He moved with surprising agility, darting forward to test your defenses before retreating into the foliage. You raised your sword, feeling the weight of the encounter settle upon you. This was no random monster; it was a messenger. As he lunged again, you parried his strike, the clash of metal ringing out against the silence of the shore. He grunted, dropping a scrap of tattered cloth as he stumbled back. You realized then that this single skirmish was merely the prelude to a larger storm, a warning written in fabric and blood that the goblins were coming.
Reader's Guide
Goblin Scouts are uncommon surface enemies found exclusively during the day in the outermost sixths of your world, far from the center. They strictly avoid Sand Blocks and any Corruption, Crimson, or Hallow terrain. To locate them efficiently, travel to the extreme left or right edges of the map while it is daytime.
These goblins utilize Fighter AI, capable of opening doors and dealing moderate damage that scales with game progression. Their threat level is manageable for early-game adventurers but can become dangerous in groups. They have a 30% knockback resistance, meaning they will not be easily pushed back by weak weapons.
Farm them by using Battle Potions and placing Water Candles to increase spawn rates. If you have destroyed at least one Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart without defeating a Goblin Army yet, their spawn rate triples. Defeating them guarantees 1–2 Tattered Cloth drops, the essential component for crafting the Goblin Battle Standard to summon the full army.
Note that in Celebration Mk 10 worlds, they spawn further from oceans, while in specific world types like Zenith, they may appear in the Cavern layer.
