Green Slime
The humble green sentinel of the forest, first to greet the wandering hero
The Green Slime is a pre-Hardmode enemy and a slime variant that commonly spawns in Forest biomes during the daytime . It is the weakest slime and also one of the most common ones to encounter, likely making it the first enemy a player will come across in a new world. Green Slimes will not target the player under usual circumstances, but will become aggressive when damaged, during the night, or if brought underground. Like most other slimes, the Green Slime will be passive towards any player with the Royal Gel (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) accessory equipped. On Desktop , Console , Mobile , and 3DS , they can rarely be found carrying bonus drops , which the player receives upon the slime's death. - Item (Quantity) Rate - Gel (1–2) 100% - Slime Staff 0.01% 0.014% - Bonus drop: can be seen in the slime's body Only one of these can be dropped - Swiftness Potion 0.18% - Ironskin Potion 0.18% - Spelunker Potion 0.18% - Mining Potion (Desktop, Console, Old-gen console and Mobile versions) 0.18% - Recall Potion 0.27% - Wormhole Potion (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 0.27% - Torch (5–10) 0.31% - Bomb (2–6) 0.31% - Rope (20–45) 0.31% - Heart 0.31% - Copper Ore (3–13) 0.16% - Tin Ore (3–13) 0.16% - Iron Ore (3–13) 0.16% - Lead Ore (3–13) 0.16% - Tungsten Ore (3–13) 0.16% - Silver Ore (3–13) 0.16% - Gold Ore (3–13) 0.16% - Platinum Ore (3–13) 0.16% - Copper Coin (50–99) 0.42% - Silver Coin (20–99) 0.42% - Gold Coin (1–2) 0.42% - Internal NPC ID : -3 - 1 Notes - 2 Achievements - 3 Trivia - 4 History

Lore & Background
In the verdant heart of Terraria's forests, where sunlight filters through ancient canopy leaves, dwells the Green Slime. It is the primordial jelly of this world, a simple yet relentless creature that swallows all in its path only to digest them over an eternity. Though often dismissed as the weakest of its gelatinous kin, it holds a peculiar significance as the first adversary many brave souls ever meet. Its presence is a rite of passage, marking the boundary between safety and the wild unknown.
By day, these creatures wander with a passive indifference, ignoring all but those who strike them first or stray into the subterranean dark where their aggression blooms. Yet, when the Slime Rain paints the sky in hues of slime or the winds blow strong enough to tether them to balloons, they descend upon the surface regardless of time or place. In Expert Mode worlds, even this humble foe transforms into a formidable threat, boasting strength that rivals its Hardmode counterparts, proving that size and color do not always dictate power.
Legend speaks of the Royal Gel as a charm that can tame even these wild hearts, rendering them harmless companions rather than enemies. Within their translucent forms lie secrets of old, rare treasures like the elusive Slime Staff or simple ores waiting to be claimed by those patient enough to watch them bounce. They are the silent witnesses to every new journey, a bouncing green testament to the world's endless cycle of danger and discovery.
In Their Own Story
The morning sun warmed the grass as you stepped into the clearing, the air thick with the scent of pine and damp earth. There, bouncing rhythmically against the wildflowers, was a Green Slime. It looked harmless enough, a simple sphere of emerald gel that seemed to absorb the light around it. You raised your sword, expecting an easy victory, but the creature merely hopped in place, indifferent to your presence.
Then, a shadow fell across the grass as you swung. The slime quivered, its passive nature instantly shattered by the strike. It lunged forward with surprising speed, its body elongating before snapping back into a perfect arc. You sidestepped, feeling the wind of its passage, and realized that even this smallest foe demanded respect. As night began to bleed into the horizon, you noticed others gathering in the distance, their green forms glowing faintly against the twilight.
You struck again, watching for the flash of gold or the glint of a potion within its translucent body. With a final, satisfying squelch, it dissolved into a pile of gel and coins. In that moment, you understood the truth of this world: even the simplest enemy could hide the seeds of fortune, waiting only for the courage to engage.
Reader's Guide
The Green Slime is the quintessential pre-Hardmode foe, spawning abundantly in Forest biomes during daylight hours. While generally passive, it becomes hostile upon taking damage, at night, or if lured underground. Its defense is zero, but its health and damage scale significantly in Expert Mode worlds, where it can outmatch many Hardmode variants.
Combat is straightforward; use a sword or ranged weapon to strike it from a distance to avoid contact damage. Be wary of their knockback resistance, which increases as the world progresses. For farming, the Slime Rain event offers a unique opportunity where they fall from the sky in any biome, providing easy access to drops without leaving your base.
Notable drops include Gel (100%), essential for crafting torches and explosives. Rarely, you may find the coveted Slime Staff with a 0.01% chance, or one of several bonus items like Swiftness Potions, ores, coins, or even hearts. On Desktop, Console, and Mobile versions, they can rarely carry these bonus drops visible within their bodies before death.
