Wraith

Pitch-black phantoms with burning red eyes that drift through solid stone.

The Wraith is a Hardmode enemy that spawns on the surface at night , can travel through blocks , and has a 1/8 (12.5%) chance to inflict the Slow debuff upon contact with the player for 15 / 30 / 37.5 seconds. They have ghostly, pitch-black bodies which render them almost completely invisible in dark areas, but have two glowing red eyes that remain visible even in complete darkness. Although Wraiths appear to fly freely, they can only hover slightly above the ground. They need foreground blocks to "swim" through in order to fly any higher. - Item (Quantity) Rate - Fast Clock 1% 1.99% - Internal NPC ID : 82 - Internal Buff ID : 32 - 1 Notes - 2 Tips - 3 Trivia - 4 History - 5 References

Lore & Background

In the deepest darkness, where even the moonlight fails to penetrate, only two glowing red eyes betray their approach. They possess no true form, existing as pitch-black voids that can slip through solid rock and earth with eerie grace. Yet, they are bound by an ancient tether to the ground, unable to ascend beyond a few tiles above the surface unless they find the stone walls of the world to swim against. They are the hunters of the new moon, their numbers swelling when the sky is at its darkest, seeking to slow the living with a chilling touch that freezes blood and bone.

In Their Own Story

You raised your spear, the metal singing as you thrust forward, but the phantom drifted effortlessly through the stone wall beside you, closing the gap with unnatural speed. As it brushed past, a sudden, icy weight seized your limbs; the Slow debuff took hold, dragging your movements into molasses. Panic flared as you realized they could not be blocked by terrain walls or pressure plates, flowing like water around your defenses. You had to rely on weapons that pierced through solid matter, striking blindly at the darkness until the red eyes flickered and vanished, leaving only a faint coin clatter behind.

Reader's Guide

To fight them effectively, use melee weapons with long reach or piercing capabilities like spears, as you can attack them through walls. Constructing platforms at least six tiles above the surface prevents them from ascending into your base. For farming, break altars repeatedly to spawn them for their Banners and the rare Fast Clock (1% drop rate), noting that statues will only yield loot if broken in Hardmode.
