Voodoo Demon

A shadowed harbinger of doom bearing a soul-bound doll in the depths

The Voodoo Demon is a rare pre-Hardmode enemy that spawns in The Underworld . It is identical to the Demon in behavior, but differs slightly in appearance: a small Guide Voodoo Doll hangs upside-down from one of its talons, and it lacks the blue bracelets and anklets that are worn by regular Demons. Voodoo Demons will always drop a Guide Voodoo Doll when killed. Due to the terrain of the Underworld, defeating a Voodoo Demon may result in an unwanted summoning of the Wall of Flesh if the doll falls into one of the many large bodies of lava throughout the Underworld. It is one of the few entities that can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or its upgrades. - Item (Quantity) Rate - Guide Voodoo Doll 100% - Demon Scythe 2.86% - Demon Sickle - Internal NPC ID : 66 - Internal Buff ID : 22 - Internal Projectile ID : 44 - 1 Notes - 2 Tips - 3 Trivia - 4 History - 5 References

Lore & Background

To encounter this creature is to risk the awakening of an ancient slumbering god. Should the doll be severed from its master and cast into the endless rivers of molten rock below, the barrier between the mortal realm and the void shatters instantly. The Wall of Flesh rises in response, a titanic engine of destruction summoned by the accidental or deliberate sacrifice of the Guide's proxy. Thus, the Voodoo Demon serves as both a prize for the desperate and a perilous trap for the careless, its lowly spawn rate masking the cataclysmic potential it carries within its grasp.

In Their Own Story

Your sword clashes against its wings, the metal ringing out in the oppressive silence. The demon retaliates with a sickle that cleaves the air, leaving a trail of darkness that clouds your vision as if night had fallen mid-day. You strike true, and it dissolves into motes of light, but the doll remains, tumbling through the air toward the churning river below. Time slows. You lunge, fingers straining to catch the falling artifact before it hits the molten surface, knowing that one slip means summoning the Wall of Flesh before you are ready for war.

Reader's Guide

Upon defeat, they always drop a Guide Voodoo Doll, which can be thrown into lava to summon the Wall of Flesh boss if the Guide is alive. There is also a rare 2.86% chance for them to drop a Demon Scythe. In For the Worthy worlds, two-thirds of all naturally spawning Demons are replaced by these variants, increasing both farm efficiency and accidental boss spawn risks.
