Lore & Background
["When the sun darkens and the sky turns a bruised violet, the Solar Eclipse brings forth horrors from forgotten legends. Among them stalks the Vampire, a creature of dual nature born from the bloodlust of the night. Legends say it was once a man cursed to wander the earth, or perhaps a bat that gained human cunning; either way, its existence is defined by an insatiable thirst for warm blood. In Terraria's darkened hours, these undead entities manifest as pale, tuxedo-clad figures who glide with eerie silence before striking with terrifying speed.", 'They possess a shapeshifting curse that allows them to dissolve into swarms of bats when threatened or distant, only to reform instantly near their prey. This fluidity makes them elusive targets, as they dart through the gloom, transforming mid-flight to close the gap in a blur of motion. Their touch carries an ancient malice, inflicting the Bleeding debuff that halts all natural regeneration, leaving victims vulnerable and slowly drained until the fight is won or lost.', "The Vampire's presence is a nod to classic horror cinema, echoing the Dracula archetype with its cape-like silhouette and predatory grace. Though they flee when the eclipse ends, returning to the shadows of the day, their memory lingers in the form of shattered bat wings and cursed amulets left behind on the battlefield. They are not merely monsters of the night but harbingers of a time when the barrier between worlds grows thin."]
In Their Own Story
['The sky bleeds crimson as the moon swallows the sun, casting the world into an unnatural twilight. You stand ready, your blade gleaming in the dim light, when a shadow detaches itself from the gloom. It is tall, draped in dark rags, moving with a fluid, predatory grace that defies the chaos of the eclipse. Suddenly, it dissolves into a swarm of bats, swirling upward and away, vanishing into the murky air.', 'You raise your weapon, scanning the darkness, but the silence is short-lived. A high-speed blur crashes down from above, reforming instantly into the humanoid figure mere feet from you. Its eyes glow with hunger as it lunges, claws raking across your armor. The impact sends a searing pain through your body; you feel your life force siphoned away, unable to heal as the Bleeding curse takes hold. You strike back, but it is already gone again, shifting form once more to circle you from above, a relentless hunter in this dying light.']
Reader's Guide
['The Vampire appears exclusively during the Solar Eclipse event, a rare Hardmode occurrence where the sun is blocked out. It spawns as an undead flying enemy with a unique AI that alternates between humanoid and bat forms depending on your distance. In its humanoid state, it charges at high speed; in bat form, it flies erratically to close gaps before transforming again.', 'This enemy poses a significant threat due to its ability to inflict the Bleeding debuff upon contact, which prevents life regeneration for up to 17.5 seconds on higher difficulties. Its damage output scales with difficulty, reaching 180 damage in Expert and Master modes. Additionally, it has high knockback resistance, making it difficult to stagger.', 'To defeat Vampires effectively, use the Stake Launcher, which deals 10x damage against them in both forms. Due to low visibility during the eclipse, equip light sources like the Wisp in a Bottle or Shine Potion, and consider using a Hunter Potion to track their movement. Farming them yields Broken Bat Wings (2.5%), Moon Stone (2.86% to 5.63%), and on desktop/console/mobile, the Amulet of the Night (2.5%).']
