Lore & Background

To the scholars of Terraria, the Selenian represents a paradox: guardians of a pillar that heralds destruction. They are acrobatic in nature, using their spinning momentum to not only close vast distances in an instant but to turn the player's own arsenal against them. It is said they were created by the Celestial Forces specifically to counter the reliance on ranged and magical projectiles, forcing adventurers to adapt or perish under a rain of reflected fire. Their presence signals that the final battle has begun, where every shot fired must be weighed against the risk of being turned back upon its master.

In Their Own Story

The air around the Solar Pillar shimmers with oppressive heat, distorting the horizon into a wavering mirage. You stand your ground, the weight of your bow heavy in your hands, as a Selenian drops from the blinding light above. It lands softly, then immediately erupts into motion, a blur of golden armor and flaming steel. You loose an arrow, its flight true and swift, but the creature spins, a vortex of solar energy forming around it. The arrow strikes the spinning blades and is instantly reflected, screaming back toward you with unnatural speed. You barely dodge, feeling the heat singe your cheek as the projectile embeds itself in the earth where you stood moments before.

The Selenian lunges forward, closing the gap with terrifying velocity, its twin swords glowing like miniature suns. It does not merely attack; it dances, weaving a pattern of fire and steel that seems to mock your attempts to strike back. You realize too late that your ranged prowess is useless here; every arrow you loose becomes a threat to your own life. The creature's spin is relentless, a spinning shield that turns the battlefield into a deadly game of ricochets. Only by stepping closer, into the range where its blades cannot reflect, do you find safety, trading distance for survival in this dance with the sun.

Reader's Guide

The Selenian appears exclusively during the Lunar Events, specifically within the Solar Pillar zone. As a Hardmode enemy spawned after defeating the Lunatic Cultist, it patrols the ground while wielding two flaming swords. Its primary threat is its spinning lunge attack, which allows it to quickly close distance and reflect player projectiles. This reflection mechanic affects bullets, arrows, darts, and many magic spells, but notably spares rockets and contact-based attacks.

Combat strategy requires adapting your loadout. Melee users are naturally favored as their weapons generally cannot be reflected. Ranged players should equip rocket-firing weaponry like the Snowman Cannon to bypass the reflection shield entirely. Magic users can utilize non-projectile or unreflected spells such as the Razorblade Typhoon, Rainbow Gun, or Magnet Sphere. Summoners also hold an advantage since most minions deal direct contact damage without firing projectiles.

When the Selenian enters its spinning state, it becomes vulnerable, taking triple damage from all player-inflicted sources. Exploiting this window is crucial for efficient farming. The enemy drops no unique items but can be farmed for the Selenian Banner to boost player damage and defense in subsequent encounters.
