Pirate Captain
A gun-toting warlord of the sea who trades gold for cannon fire
The Pirate Captain is a Hardmode enemy that spawns during the Pirate Invasion event . Upon being within line of sight of the player, he attacks using an assault rifle-like gun that shoots at a speed comparable to the Minishark , then stops to fire a single cannonball from its underbarrel mounted cannon while stationary. A Pirate's Curse will be spawned when a Pirate Captain is killed. It will slowly drift towards the player through walls much like Wraiths . He is one of the few entities that can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer or its upgrades. Lore & Background
['When the sky turns the color of bruised plums and the air smells of salt and sulfur, the Pirate Captain emerges from the rift between worlds. He is not merely a raider but a high-ranking commander whose obsession with heavy gunpowder rivals his insatiable hunger for gold. Unlike the mindless swarms of his subordinates, this figure possesses a terrifying tactical awareness, halting his advance to unleash a devastating cannonball that shatters stone and bone alike before continuing his assault with rapid rifle fire.', "His presence marks a shift in the invasion's tide; he is the only one among them who can be tracked by the most sensitive lifeform sensors, signaling a dire threat to any settlement. Upon his defeat, he does not simply vanish but leaves behind a lingering curse that drifts through walls like a spectral wraith, haunting the victor with the promise of future danger. He is a singular entity within each wave, yet his death offers a gateway to treasures so rare they seem plucked from the depths of legend."]
In Their Own Story
["The horizon shuddered as the invasion fleet materialized, but your eyes locked onto him immediately. The Pirate Captain strode forward with an air of arrogant command, his rifle already humming with a familiar, terrifying rhythm that matched the Minishark's cadence. You held your breath, dodging the hail of lead as he suddenly froze, raising a mounted cannon beneath his weapon. A heavy thud echoed through the caverns before a glowing orb of destruction erupted from the barrel, detonating against the rock face where you had stood mere seconds prior.", "Smoke cleared to reveal him advancing again, but this time you were ready. You unleashed a long-range volley while maintaining your distance, knowing his cannon had limited reach but immense power. When he finally fell, the air grew heavy with a strange, cold energy as a spectral curse detached from his fading form, drifting silently through the stone walls toward you. Yet amidst the chaos and the lingering curse, something glinted in the dust—a chance at the legendary Coin Gun or the elusive Lucky Coin, rewards for surviving the wrath of the sea's most deadly captain."]
Reader's Guide
['The Pirate Captain appears exclusively during the Hardmode Pirate Invasion event, serving as a high-priority target that can be detected via the Lifeform Analyzer. Only one exists at any given moment, though he respawns repeatedly throughout the invasion until the event concludes. His combat pattern is distinct: he fires rapid rifle rounds comparable to the Minishark when mobile, then halts completely to launch a short-range cannonball from his underbarrel that explodes on contact with blocks and deals massive damage.', 'In Expert and Master modes, his contact and projectile damage are lethal, necessitating high mobility items like wings or dashes to evade his attacks. Strategy dictates prioritizing him over standard pirates due to his superior drop rates for rare gear, which are approximately four times higher than other invaders. However, since he respawns upon death, some players may choose to clear weaker enemies first while waiting for the Captain to reappear, ensuring maximum efficiency in farming.', "Notable drops include the Coin Gun (0.1%), Lucky Coin (0.2%), Discount Card (0.4%), Pirate Staff (0.4%), Gold Ring (0.8%), Barrel Launcher (2%), and Cutlass (2%). His Bestiary entry requires only 25 kills rather than the standard 50, and each kill contributes 2.78% to the event's completion status in single-player."]
