Pigron

A rotund dragon-pig phantom that phases through ice and shadow

The Pigron is a Hardmode enemy found in the Ice biome when it is overlapped with the Underground Corruption , Underground Crimson , or Underground Hallow . It has multiple color variants, depending on which overlapping biome it spawns in, but all share identical stats and behavior. Pigrons have a special ability to become transparent and nearly invisible, allowing them to fly through solid blocks . As a transparent Pigron starts to attack, it will become visible again. When it starts moving towards the player, it occasionally makes an audible growl. If it is in its solid, visible state and is blocked by solid blocks on its path to the player, it will become transparent again to pass through them. - Item (Quantity) Rate - Bacon (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 6.67% - Pigron Minecart (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 1% - Pigron Kite (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) (on Windy Days ) 4% - Ham Bat (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 4% - Eater Of Life (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) ( Corrupt and Crimson only) 0.5% 0.67% - Crystallize (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) ( Hallow only) 0.5% 0.67% - Internal NPC ID : 170 (Corrupt) , 171 (Hallow) , 180 (Crimson) - 1 Notes - 2 Tips - 3 Trivia - 4 See also - 5 History - 6 References

Lore & Background

Deep within the frozen veins of the world, where the eternal cold meets the creeping taint of corruption or the blinding radiance of the hallow, a strange paradox takes form. The Pigron is an elusive hybrid, part porcine bulk, part draconic grace, born from the chaotic convergence of opposing biomes. Whether cloaked in the bruised purple of the underground corruption, the sickly pink of the hallow, or the crimson hue of the underworld's twin, these creatures remain a mystery to scholars. Their very existence defies logic, as they possess no known lineage other than the strange alchemy of the world itself.

These beasts are masters of stealth, capable of rendering their rotund figures nearly invisible to become ghosts against the stone. When threatened or hunting, they do not merely fly; they phase through solid matter, slipping through walls and ice as if they were mere mist. Their growls echo in the caverns long before their forms materialize, a distorted sound reminiscent of ancient kings summoning their armies. They are the unseen guardians of the deep freeze, waiting for the moment an intruder blocks their path to reveal themselves in a flash of translucent fury.

Though they appear as mere enemies to the unwary traveler, their drops suggest a connection to deeper secrets. From the elusive pigron minecart to the legendary ham bat, these creatures carry treasures that hint at a forgotten history. Even their banners and mounts remain stubbornly pink regardless of their current biome, a testament to an original form lost to time. They are the silent watchers of the ice, phantoms that remember when the world was whole.

In Their Own Story

The cold bit deeper than usual as you descended into the caverns, the air thick with the scent of ozone and rotting earth. You had sought only ore, but the silence of the Ice biome felt heavy, expectant. Then came the sound—a low, distorted growl that seemed to vibrate in your very bones. You spun around, sword raised, but saw nothing but the jagged walls of pink ice.

Suddenly, a shadow detached itself from the darkness, solidifying into a grotesque shape: a pig with wings and scales, glowing faintly purple against the gloom. Before you could strike, its form dissolved into transparency. It surged forward, passing effortlessly through the stone barrier between you as if it were water. You scrambled back, heart hammering, but the creature was already circling, invisible once more. The growl returned, closer this time, echoing from your left, then right. You realized too late that the only way to kill a ghost is to make it visible again. As it phased through the floor toward you, you waited, breath held, until its form snapped back into reality for a split second. That was all you needed.

Reader's Guide

The Pigron is a Hardmode flying enemy exclusive to the Ice biome, specifically spawning only when the Underground Corruption, Crimson, or Hallow overlaps with it. They appear in the Cavern layer on Snow, Thin Ice, Ice, or Pink Ice blocks while the player stands within one of those evil biomes. Note that you do not need to be in the Ice biome yourself for them to spawn, provided the block conditions and overlapping biome are met.

These creatures possess a unique AI where they become transparent and fly through solid blocks when their path is obstructed. They will only reveal themselves to attack or if they have a clear line of sight. To counter this, ensure your arena has no large gaps that allow them to observe you while blocked by walls; alternatively, use a Hunter Potion to highlight their invisible forms in red. Their growls are audible indicators of their presence before they become visible.

Farming Pigrons requires specific conditions: no Town NPCs nearby and the player must have moved or used an item recently. Statue-spawned variants are useful for Bestiary completion but drop no loot except banners. Notable drops include Bacon, the Ham Bat (4% chance), the unique Pigron Minecart (1%), and biome-specific weapons like Eater of Life or Crystallize.
