Nymph
A deceptive siren of the deeps who feigns helplessness before striking
The Nymph is a rare pre-Hardmode enemy that spawns in the Cavern layer of any biome . When encountered, she appears as the Lost Girl , who seems to be a helpless, stationary NPC in need of rescue. However, when a player gets close or attacks the Lost Girl, she transforms into the Nymph and starts attacking the player. For a pre-Hardmode enemy, she deals comparatively high damage. The Lost Girl will only transform into a Nymph if any of the following conditions are met: The Lost Girl is immune to the Confused debuff , but the transformed Nymph is not. She is one of the few entities that can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) or its upgrades. The Nymph requires 25 kills to be awarded completion of her Bestiary entry and corresponding banner , as opposed to the usual 50 kills. - Item (Quantity) Rate - Metal Detector (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 50% 100% - Internal NPC ID : 195 - Item (Quantity) Rate - Metal Detector (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 50% 100% - Internal NPC ID : 196 - The Lost Girl does not have full health. - The distance between the player and the Lost Girl is less than 12.5 tiles, and she has a direct line of sight to the player. - The Lost Girl is moving in any direction (e.g. caused by falling or knockback ). - 1 Notes - 2 Achievements - 3 Tips - 4 Trivia 4.1 Bestiary entries - 5 History - 6 References

Lore & Background
Deep within the silent, crushing dark of the Cavern layer, a solitary figure stands motionless against the stone. She appears as the Lost Girl, pale and vulnerable, her form stark against the gloom as if waiting for a rescuer to guide her back to the sunlit world above. To the weary traveler, she represents a beacon of hope, a momentary pause in the endless descent into danger. Yet, this stillness is a masterful ruse, a predatory patience honed by ancient instincts that predate the surface dwellers who now tread her domain.
The transformation is swift and merciless. The moment a player draws near or ventures to offer aid, the illusion shatters. The Lost Girl reveals herself as the Nymph, a creature of blood-lust and ferocious might. Her hands, once seemingly empty, are stained with the crimson evidence of previous encounters gone wrong. Unlike the timid demeanor she mimics, the true Nymph moves with terrifying speed, her eyes burning with an unnatural aggression that belies her small stature. She is not a victim in need of salvation but a guardian of the deep who tolerates no intrusion.
In the annals of Terraria's folk memory, she stands as a grim reminder that not all things found in the dark are lost; some are merely waiting. While the Dryad roams the surface in vibrant vines, her kin lurk below in naked vulnerability that masks deadly power. The Nymph is the great-grandmother of the Guide, or so the jest goes, but in truth, she remains an enigmatic force of nature, a minor deity of the underworld who demands respect through fear rather than reverence.
In Their Own Story
The pickaxe strikes with a dull thud against the granite wall, sending dust motes dancing in the dim glow of your torch. In the sudden silence that follows, you see her. She stands alone in a narrow crevice, motionless as a statue carved from pale marble. Her hair is disheveled, and she clutches nothing but empty air, looking up with eyes that seem to plead for rescue. Your heart swells with a familiar instinct; here is someone lost, someone who needs saving.
You step closer, the distance closing between you and the trembling figure. The air grows heavy, charged with an unseen tension. As your boot crosses the invisible threshold of twelve and a half tiles, her head snaps up. The look of fear evaporates instantly, replaced by a cold, predatory glare. She does not speak; she transforms. Her form shudders, and in a blink, the helpless girl is gone, replaced by the Nymph.
She lunges with a speed that defies her size, a blur of motion that brings her hands to your chest before you can raise your weapon. The impact stings, dealing more damage than any other creature of this depth should possess. You stumble back, realizing too late that the rescue mission was never yours to lead. She circles you, fast and relentless, her blood-stained hands ready to strike again. There is no mercy in the deep, only the hunter and the hunted.
Reader's Guide
The Nymph is a rare pre-Hardmode enemy found exclusively within the Cavern layer of any biome, though she may appear in the Underground layer if your world was generated with the Remix seed. She initially manifests as the stationary Lost Girl, who only transforms upon direct player approach (within 12.5 tiles), line of sight, movement caused by knockback, or when damaged.
Threat Level: High for pre-Hardmode. The Nymph boasts high contact damage and rapid movement speed but lacks ranged attacks or significant jumping ability. She is immune to the Confused debuff in her Lost Girl form, though this immunity vanishes upon transformation. Her high defense and knockback resistance make her a formidable opponent for early-game adventurers.
Combat Strategy: Maintain distance. Since she cannot attack from afar, ranged weapons allow you to dispatch her safely. Melee players should utilize stun-locking mechanics with flails, boomerangs, yoyos, or the Harpoon to control her speed. The Harpoon is particularly effective due to its rapid fire rate.
Farming & Detection: The Nymph is often missed because she remains silent and stationary in dark areas. Use a Lifeform Analyzer, Hunter Potion (which highlights her as red), or the Magic Lantern light pet to locate her. Increase spawn rates with Water Candles and Battle Potions. For efficient farming before finding the Mechanic, construct a Volcano Farm using Dart Traps.
Drops: She yields 2 Gold Coins normally, but has a 50% chance to drop the Metal Detector on Desktop, Console, and Mobile versions. Only 25 kills are required to complete her Bestiary entry.
Did You Know?
- The Nymph requires only 25 kills for her Bestiary entry, half the usual requirement of 50.
- Despite appearing naked and vulnerable as the Lost Girl, she possesses higher defense than her transformed Nymph form.
- Her left banner depicts the Lost Girl while the right side shows the aggressive Nymph.
- In the Remix world seed, she spawns in the Underground layer rather than the Caverns.
