Lore & Background

When the sun turns blood-red and the veil between worlds thins, an intelligent being emerges from the shadows to stalk the land. The Nailhead is no mindless beast but a calculated entity that harvests souls, driving spikes of iron from its own flesh as both shield and spear. Ancient whispers claim these projectiles are not merely ammunition but fragments of its spirit, cast outward to defend against intruders who would dare challenge its grim purpose.

Unlike the frenzied horde that accompanies the eclipse, this creature moves with deliberate, heavy grace, seemingly unbothered by the chaos surrounding it. Its resistance to force is legendary; few weapons can budge its stony form once it has taken aim. It stands as a testament to the corruption that seeps into the world during celestial disasters, where even the air itself seems to recoil from the metallic glint of its armor.

To the brave adventurer who seeks to end its reign, the Nailhead offers a deadly bargain: strike first and risk a barrage of iron shards, or face its crushing contact damage. It is a foe that demands respect, for in the silence between its movements lies the deadliest threat of all, turning the battlefield into a gauntlet of flying steel.

In Their Own Story

The sky bleeds crimson as the Solar Eclipse deepens, silencing the usual cacophony of monsters. You spot it first by the glint of iron protruding from a mass that lumbers forward with terrifying slowness. It is the Nailhead, a solitary figure carved from nightmare and metal. As you raise your weapon, it does not flinch. Instead, its body ripples, and with a sickening crunch, three to five nails erupt from its form in a wide arc.

You dodge the first volley, but the second grazes your armor, ringing like a struck bell. The creature's health seems inexhaustible, its 34 points of defense shrugging off your initial assault. You realize too late that getting close is suicide; at this distance, its contact damage alone could shatter your resolve. You retreat, firing from afar, but the half-second cooldown between its barrages feels like an eternity. The nails fly with lethal precision, nearly matching the danger of the beast itself. In Master Mode, the air fills with a storm of steel, and you must weave through the chaos, knowing that one mistake means instant death.

Reader's Guide

The Nailhead appears exclusively during the Solar Eclipse event in Hardmode, but only after Plantera has been defeated. It is an uncommon spawn with significantly higher health than other eclipse foes, boasting up to 12,000 life on Master Mode.

Threat Level: Extreme. While it moves slower than any other Solar Eclipse enemy, its contact damage is devastating (up to 300) and it fires a spread of 3-5 nails when attacked. These projectiles deal massive damage and have a half-second cooldown between volleys. In Expert and Master modes, the nails are nearly as deadly as direct contact.

Combat Strategy: Do not engage at close range. Maintain distance to avoid both its crushing melee and its projectile barrage. Position yourself out of the line of fire to dodge the nail spread effectively. Its high knockback resistance means crowd control is ineffective; focus on sustained ranged damage.

Farming & Drops: Despite requiring 25 kills for Bestiary completion instead of the usual 50, it drops the valuable Nail Gun with a 4% chance (7.84% in Master Mode), along with 100-200 nails and standard coin loot.
