Lore & Background
In the shadowed ranks of the Goblin Army, the Peon serves as the humble yet terrifying vanguard. Though often dismissed by seasoned adventurers as mere cannon fodder, their true danger lies not in brute force, but in a singular, destructive obsession: the demolition of fortifications. These foul creatures are the only enemies in Terraria capable of reducing sturdy wooden doors to floating collectible items, turning the player's safest havens into open vulnerabilities with a single swing of their crude weapons.
Standing a mere two tiles tall, the Peon possesses a deceptive agility that allows it to slip through gaps too narrow for any human or larger goblin kin. This physical quirk transforms them from simple blockers into elusive infiltrators, capable of bypassing defensive lines by exploiting the smallest architectural flaws. Their existence is defined by this relentless drive to breach barriers, making every closed door a potential point of failure during an invasion.
Despite their lowly status within the goblin hierarchy, their persistence is legendary. They swarm in waves, driven by a chaotic collective will that prioritizes destruction above all else. Whether facing a lone traveler or a fortified base, the Peon's role remains unchanged: to break the line, shatter the wood, and pave the way for the more formidable warriors that follow.
In Their Own Story
The sky darkens as the goblin war horn blares, signaling the arrival of the horde. You retreat behind your heavy oak doors, expecting a momentary reprieve, but the sound that follows is not the roar of battle—it is the sickening crack of splintering wood. A small, hunched figure emerges from the smoke, barely reaching your waist. It is a Goblin Peon, wielding a jagged iron harpoon with a manic grin.
You watch in horror as it ignores your sword swings, focusing entirely on the doorframe. With a swift, practiced motion, it strikes the wood, sending planks flying into the air as collectible items. The barrier crumbles instantly, leaving you exposed to the endless tide behind it. You realize too late that its small stature is not a weakness; it has already slipped through a gap in your wall, bypassing your defenses entirely. As more of them pour through the breach, their eyes fixed on destroying everything they touch, you understand that survival depends not just on killing them, but on repairing what they break before the army swallows your home whole.
Reader's Guide
The Goblin Peon appears exclusively during the pre-Hardmode and Hardmode Goblin Army events. It has a roughly 17.8% chance to spawn among goblin units, making it one of the most common invaders you will face.
These enemies utilize Fighter AI, moving directly toward players to deal contact damage. Their primary threat is unique: they can destroy wooden doors and trapdoors in their path, causing these blocks to drop as items. This mechanic allows them to bypass standard base defenses, forcing players to rely on walls with gaps or alternative barricades like platforms.
To counter them effectively, build your base using materials that cannot be destroyed by enemies, such as stone or bricks, and ensure there are no small gaps they can slip through. While their health is low in early stages (60 HP), it scales significantly in Hardmode and post-Plantera worlds. Focus fire on Peons first if you see them targeting your entrance.
For farming, summon the Goblin Army using a Goblin Battle Standard. Defeat Peons to collect Spiky Balls (dropped 49.75% of the time), which are essential for crafting traps and weapons early game. The Harpoon is a rare drop at only 0.5%, making it a challenging target for completionists.
