Dungeon Spirit

Ghosts of the deep dungeon rise to haunt the living with spectral fury

The Dungeon Spirit is a flying Hardmode , post- Plantera enemy that spawns in the Dungeon after Plantera is defeated. It can travel through blocks and drops Ectoplasm , which can be used to craft many Spectre -related items , as well as the Pumpkin Moon Medallion and Naughty Present . When defeating any enemy with more than 100 maximum health in a Hardmode , post- Plantera Dungeon, there is a (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) 1/13 (7.69%) / 1/9 (11.11%) / (Old-gen console and 3DS versions) 1/15 (6.67%) chance of a Dungeon Spirit spawning from where they had been killed. The enemy must also have been defeated in front of an unsafe Dungeon Brick Wall to spawn a Dungeon Spirit. On the Desktop version , Console version , and Mobile version , the enemy must also drop coins , meaning statue -spawned and Old One's Army enemies do not spawn Dungeon Spirits. - Item (Quantity) Rate - Ectoplasm (1–2) 100% - Internal NPC ID : 288 - 1 Notes - 2 Tips - 3 Trivia - 4 History

Lore & Background

["When the heart of the Jungle Temple ceases its rhythmic thrum and Plantera falls, a new silence descends upon the ancient brick halls. It is in this quiet aftermath that the true spirits of the Dungeon awaken, no longer bound by the shackles of physical form. These ethereal wraiths are not merely random hauntings but the concentrated essence of the Dungeon's most potent curses, coalescing where the veil between life and death grows thin against unsafe brick walls.", 'They drift through stone as if it were mist, their forms flickering with a cold, spectral luminescence that mirrors the trapped souls they once were. The Bestiary whispers that these manifestations arise only when high concentrations of ectoplasm gather within the remains of powerful cursed inhabitants, binding their lingering malice to the very floor where they perished. They are the guardians of the forgotten depths, exacting a toll on any who dare disturb the sanctity of the post-Plantera darkness.', 'To the unprepared traveler, these spirits are invisible until it is too late, blending seamlessly with the ambient gloom or mimicking harmless wisps of light. They carry the weight of centuries of dungeon decay in their translucent frames, offering only one path forward: to harvest their spectral residue for crafting tools of light and shadow, or to perish under their relentless, phasing assault.']

In Their Own Story

['You stand amidst the jagged ruins of the Deep Dungeon, the air thick with the scent of damp stone and ancient magic. The battle is done; a powerful foe has crumbled to dust before you, leaving only the echo of its final breath. Suddenly, the shadows seem to stretch unnaturally toward the corpse. From the pile of debris, a faint, ghostly glow coalesces, twisting into the form of a Dungeon Spirit.', 'It does not walk; it flows, phasing effortlessly through the brick wall behind your fallen enemy and turning its hollow gaze upon you. Its presence is cold, a chill that seeps through armor and skin alike. You raise your weapon, but the spirit laughs in silence, drifting upward to hover just out of reach before darting forward with supernatural speed. It passes directly through your defensive barrier as if it were not there, its touch burning with spectral energy.', "Desperate, you strike again, your blade finding purchase only momentarily before the entity reforms. It is a dance of avoidance and aggression, a battle against an foe that refuses to be anchored by gravity or stone. As it fades into the wall once more, you realize this is not merely an enemy, but a fragment of the Dungeon's soul itself, demanding tribute in the form of its very essence before it will finally let you pass."]

Reader's Guide

["The Dungeon Spirit appears exclusively in Hardmode Dungeons after Plantera has been defeated. It spawns only when an enemy with over 100 maximum health is killed directly in front of unsafe Dungeon Brick Walls, provided that enemy drops coins. Statue-spawned and Old One's Army enemies cannot trigger this event.", 'On Desktop, Console, and Mobile versions, the spawn chance is 1/13 for most enemies, though it improves to 1/9 on older platforms; Master Mode allows Cursed Skulls to also spawn them due to their increased health. The spirit flies through blocks, deals significant damage (70-210 depending on difficulty), and possesses high knockback resistance.', "To farm Ectoplasm efficiently, construct a large arena with many unsafe brick walls and use the Piranha Gun to lure enemies into the kill zone; the weapon's homing projectiles will automatically target the spirit upon its appearance. Alternatively, summon King Slime within the Dungeon in Expert Mode to generate multiple spawns from his minions.", 'Defeat them to collect 1-2 Ectoplasm per kill, a crucial material for Spectre armor, tools, and the Pumpkin Moon Medallion or Naughty Present. Be wary of confusing them with Wisp in a Bottle pets; dye your pet light sources to distinguish them during combat. They are immune to all debuffs except whips.']
