Dungeon Guardian
A skeletal sentinel that guards the ancient brick walls with a touch of certain death
The Dungeon Guardian is an extremely dangerous and resilient enemy resembling Skeletron 's head. If a player enters the Dungeon in a world where Skeletron has not been defeated and travels below zero depth (the border between the surface and underground layers ), one or more Dungeon Guardians will spawn and quickly fly toward the player, dealing 9,999 damage each, which will instantly kill most players if they are unprepared. Dungeon Guardians are large, very fast (traveling at around 41 mph in all directions), and travel through all blocks . Because of the Dungeon Guardian's high defense (9,999), any player who attacks it, regardless of the weapon or other equipment (with very few exceptions), will deal only 1 damage, or 2 for critical hits . This means that the Dungeon Guardian will normally take an average of 1.04 damage. While killing a Dungeon Guardian is possible (and will award the Bone Key pet summon), it requires careful preparation. See the Tips section for setups. The Dungeon Guardian's damage ignores dodge effects. The Dungeon Guardian's Bestiary entry will automatically fill itself out once Skeletron is defeated. - Item (Quantity) Rate - Bone Key 100% - Internal NPC ID : 68 - 1 Notes - 2 Tips - 3 Trivia - 4 History - 5 References

Lore & Background
To cross below zero depth in these cursed halls is to invite immediate judgment. The guardian knows no patience, moving at forty-one miles per hour to strike with a force that ignores all armor, magic, or agility. Its defense is so absolute that even the mightiest blade strikes it as lightly as a breeze against a mountain. It exists solely to enforce the ancient pact: only by defeating Skeletron in ritual combat may one earn the right to tread these halls without fear of instant annihilation.
In Their Own Story
You raised your sword, a desperate reflex against the impossible. The blade struck the bone with a dull thud, dealing not a scratch but a pathetic glimmer of light. Before you could retreat, the guardian closed the distance, its speed blurring the world around you. The impact was instantaneous and absolute; nine thousand points of force erased your health in a heartbeat. As your vision faded to black, the skull lingered for a moment, a silent reminder that some doors remain locked until the proper key is turned.
Reader's Guide
Upon defeat, the Dungeon Guardian drops the Bone Key, a cosmetic pet summon item, at a 100% rate. It does not grant access to the dungeon; Skeletron must still be defeated for safe entry. This fight is generally considered pointless from a progression standpoint as it yields no practical gear, serving primarily as an optional challenge for dedicated players seeking the unique pet.
