Crawltipede

A celestial worm that strikes only from above, exposing its tail to the doomed sky

The Crawltipede is a Hardmode , post- Lunatic Cultist , worm enemy that spawns in the area of the Solar Pillar during the Lunar Events . Uniquely, it has no visible health bar, and its tail is the only segment that is vulnerable to attacks, which takes 10× damage. It flies directly at airborne players and deals high damage while ignoring players on the ground. The Crawltipede's primary role seems to be forcing the player to stay near the ground, opening them up to melee attacks from the other Solar Pillar enemies. - 1 Segments - 2 Notes - 3 Tips - 4 Trivia - 5 History - 6 References

Lore & Background

["When the Lunatic Cultist falls and the four pillars rise, the heavens themselves seem to curdle into a living nightmare. The Crawltipede emerges not as a creature of flesh alone, but as a conduit for the Solar Pillar's chaotic radiance. Wrapped in an aura of crackling celestial energy, this eyeless horror navigates the battlefield by sensing vibrations in the air, hunting those who dare to take flight. Its four black eyes pierce the gloom despite its supposed blindness, fixated solely on the prey that abandons the safety of the earth.", "The legends say it was born from the sun's wrath, a beast designed to enforce gravity upon the brave. It does not crawl like its terrestrial kin but hovers with terrifying agility, diving at airborne foes with the speed of a falling star. Its body is armored against all but the most precise strikes, for only the trembling tip of its tail yields to damage. Those who fly find themselves hunted by this relentless serpent, forced to return to the ground where lesser Solar horrors wait to claim them."]

In Their Own Story

['You feel it before you see it: a sudden vibration in the air, a hum that rattles your very bones. Looking up, you spot the Crawltipede coiling against the bruised purple sky, its tail glowing with an ominous solar flare. You instinctively flap your wings to gain altitude, but the creature anticipates your movement, diving with a sharpness that defies its massive bulk. It is a blur of black and gold, closing the distance in seconds.', 'Panic flares as you realize you cannot outrun it. A quick hop offers brief respite, but the worm circles back, its body forming a deadly arc around your position. You are forced to land on the cold stone, feeling the heat of its passing wash over you like a tidal wave of fire. As you scramble for footing, you see the only weakness: the tail twitching in the air above. With a desperate throw of your weapon, you strike true. The creature shrieks, a sound like tearing metal, before dissolving into the solar dust from which it came.']

Reader's Guide

["The Crawltipede appears exclusively during the Lunar Events, specifically within the Solar Pillar's area after defeating the Lunatic Cultist. It spawns as a Hardmode enemy with a staggering 10,000 to 30,000 life depending on difficulty, acting as a flying worm that ignores ground-based players.", 'Its primary threat is its aerial aggression; it homes in on airborne targets with unmatched speed and sharp turning ability. To survive, avoid staying airborne for long periods. The creature determines your status by checking a 4x15 or 5x15 tile area beneath you for solid blocks, so standing on liquids like water does not count as being grounded.', 'Combat requires precision: only the tail segment is vulnerable and takes ten times normal damage. Homing weapons like the Razorblade Typhoon or Chlorophyte Bullets are ideal, as are minions that auto-target the weak point. For lifesteal builds, the Spectre Hood combined with magic can heal over 600 HP per hit, though this triggers a cooldown. Alternatively, use layers of platforms to force it to ignore you, or employ the Solar Eruption to hit its tail from below.']
