Lore & Background

In the verdant heart of Terraria's world, where sunlight filters through ancient trees and the air hums with life, the Bunny roams as a symbol of innocence. These fuzzy wanderers are the first friends many adventurers meet, their quiet presence a stark contrast to the lurking dangers that await beyond the forest edge. Though they possess no defense and only five hearts of life, their resilience lies in their numbers and their ability to adapt to the world's whims. From the festive glow of holiday costumes to the eerie corruption of a Blood Moon, Bunnies reflect the shifting tides of the realm itself.

Legend speaks of Gem Bunnies, rare sprites found deep within the caverns near towns, their coats shimmering with the hues of precious stones. While most remain harmless, some succumb to dark influences, transforming into Corrupt or Vicious variants when touched by malevolent powders or the crimson moon's gaze. Yet even in these twisted forms, a glimmer of their original nature persists, a reminder that corruption is not always total. Crafters and decorators value them highly, trapping them in glass cages to bring life to silent halls, though once bound as furniture, they can never return to the wild unless freed by the alchemical touch of Shimmer.

In Their Own Story

You step into the morning mist, the dew clinging to your boots as a soft rustle catches your ear. There, amidst the ferns, sits a Bunny, its twitching nose and bright eyes fixed on you with innocent curiosity. It does not flee; instead, it hops closer, a tiny heartbeat against the silence of the forest. You reach out, your fingers brushing its fur, feeling the warmth of life so fragile yet enduring. Suddenly, the sky darkens as a Blood Moon rises, casting an ominous red glow over the land. The Bunny shudders, its form twisting into something grotesque—a Corrupt Bunny, eyes glowing with malice. You hesitate, torn between fear and pity, before gently capturing it in your Bug Net. In the safety of your camp, you release it once more, watching as it returns to its former self, a silent testament to the world's capacity for both darkness and redemption.

Reader's Guide

Bunnies spawn naturally in the Forest biome during daylight hours, making them the most common critter in Terraria. They are harmless, dealing no damage and possessing only 5 health with zero defense. Players can catch them using any Bug Net to carry them in their inventory or craft them into decorative Bunny Cages. Once crafted into furniture, they cannot be released unless de-crafted via Shimmer.

During a Blood Moon, Bunnies may transform into Corrupt or Vicious variants if not already corrupted by Vile/Vicious Powder. Note that costume-wearing Bunnies (Party, Halloween, Christmas) revert to normal upon capture and release, except for Party Hats which resist powder transformation. Statue-spawned Bunnies cannot be caught and vanish when interacted with.

Gem Bunnies appear in the Cavern layer near towns, offering a rare chance to find gem-themed variants. On Desktop, Console, and Mobile versions, there is a 1/400 chance for a Gold Bunny to replace a standard one. They are used in crafting Terrariums and can be sold for 5 Silver Coins each.
