Lantern Night

A sky of drifting light honoring the world's hard-won peace

The Lantern Night is a peaceful event that generally occurs the night after a boss or invasion has been defeated for the first time. During the event, many lanterns can be seen floating up into the sky in the background. The player will have a flat +0.3 increase to their luck stat and the Party Girl will sell the Release Lantern . If a boss is summoned or another event ( Blood Moon , Frost Moon , Pumpkin Moon , etc.) is activated during the event, it will stop, and will not continue even after the boss despawns or the event ends. However, if a Lantern Night is set to start but a boss or event is active when night begins, the Lantern Night may be pushed back instead; see the Notes section below for details. In addition, a Lantern Night fulfills the requirements for Enchanted Nightcrawlers to spawn naturally only if a Starfall is also ongoing. - 1 Contents 1.1 NPC quotes - 2 Notes - 3 Tips - 4 Trivia - 5 History - 6 References

Lore & Background

The significance of these floating lights shifts with the passage of time. Before the ultimate defeat of the Moon Lord, they serve as a humble tribute to recent victories, a fleeting moment where the world feels lighter and safer. Once the final cosmic horror is banished, however, the lanterns become a regular occurrence, marking the new era of peace with a 1-in-14 chance each night. They are no longer just a reaction to survival but a celebration of endurance itself. During this time, even the creatures of the deep earth change their demeanor, and under specific celestial alignments, the rare Enchanted Nightcrawler emerges from the mud, drawn by the convergence of starlight and lantern fire.

In Their Own Story

A Party Girl approaches you, her usual manic energy replaced by a serene smile. She speaks of how beautiful the sight is, noting that your recent victory has brought this peace to the land. You watch as the sky fills with a galaxy of artificial stars, their light reflecting in your eyes and making the world feel infinitely vast yet strangely intimate. For a moment, there are no monsters, no invasions, only the drifting lights and the quiet joy of being alive in a saved world. It is a memory etched into the night, a visual promise that even after the darkest battles, light always finds a way to return.

Reader's Guide

Lantern Night triggers automatically on the first night following the defeat of any major boss or invasion for the first time, excluding specific holiday enemies like the Everscream. Note that if multiple bosses are defeated in quick succession, only one event is queued; if an active combat event or Blood Moon occurs at nightfall, the Lantern Night is delayed until the next eligible clear night.

The primary threat to this event is its fragility: summoning a boss or starting another invasion immediately cancels the lanterns. To enjoy the full duration, ensure no natural spawns like the Eye of Cthulhu occur by using a Mechanical Boss statue or similar prevention methods if you wish to avoid interruptions. The environment itself is peaceful, offering a flat +0.3 luck increase to all players.

Maximize this opportunity for farming rare drops and high-value crafting materials due to the significant luck boost. If a Starfall event coincides with the lanterns, Enchanted Nightcrawlers will spawn naturally, providing easy bait for fishing. The Party Girl also sells Release Lanterns during this time, allowing you to recreate the atmosphere in your homes.
