Lunar Events

Four pillars of ruin rise as the stars themselves turn against you

The Lunar Events are a series of four late- Hardmode events initiated by defeating the Lunatic Cultist boss . Once the boss is defeated, four different sections of the world each show a large moon in their backgrounds and spawn several unique enemies at high spawn rates, with one corresponding Celestial Pillar in each. These areas can be found on the minimap via icons that represent each of their Celestial Pillars. Defeating a Celestial Pillar reverts an area back to normal. In order to damage a pillar, one must first kill 100 enemies from within its section, which removes the shield that protects the pillar and makes it vulnerable to attacks. Defeating all four Celestial Pillars triggers the status message " Impending doom approaches... " , signifying that the Moon Lord , Terraria 's final boss, is about to spawn. It spawns one minute after the message appears. After defeating the Moon Lord for the first time, only 50 enemies will need to be defeated to remove the shields protecting the pillars. - 1 Contents - 2 Notes - 3 Tips - 4 Trivia - 5 Gallery - 6 History - 7 References

Lore & Background

When the Lunatic Cultist falls, the sky fractures in a silent scream. The world does not merely darken; it splits into four distinct realms where reality bends to alien geometries. Above the scorched earth hangs the burning visage of Solar Four celestial towers rise to herald the final doom of worlds

In Their Own Story

The air grew heavy, tasting of ozone and burnt metal as the Lunatic Cultist's final scream faded into silence. You looked up, heart hammering against your ribs, to see four impossible moons hanging low in the sky, each casting a different hue over the land below. The ground trembled not with an earthquake, but with the arrival of something vast and hungry. A Solar Pillar erupted from the earth nearby, its surface pulsing like a dying star, while crimson Drakomires spiraled down from the smoke-choked heavens. You ran toward the nearest tower, your breath ragged, as Corites and Crawltipedes swarmed from the dust. The shield around the pillar shimmered with an impenetrable barrier, mocking your futile strikes. You fought through the horde, counting every fallen enemy in a desperate rhythm, until finally, the shield shattered with a sound like breaking glass. Now vulnerable, you unleashed your full arsenal upon the tower, feeling its energy wane as the status message flickered across your vision: Your mind goes numb... One down. Three to go before the end of all things.

Reader's Guide

The Lunar Events begin automatically once the Lunatic Cultist is defeated, manifesting four Celestial Pillars in distinct world sectors. Each pillar is shielded and immune to damage until 100 enemies within its specific biome are slain. The event spawns unique, high-density enemies like Vortexians, Nebula Floaters, and Star Cells that do not drop coins. Defeating a pillar grants access to powerful class-specific fragments and weapons for the remainder of the fight. To survive, prioritize the pillar matching your weapon class first to acquire superior gear. Build arenas with verticality or use flying mounts to kite enemies while breaking the shield from safety. Teleporters or Pylons are essential for navigating the vast distances between pillars quickly. Remember that sentries can continue attacking a pillar even after you die, allowing for passive progress if the shield is already broken. Once all four pillars fall, the message "Impending doom approaches..." appears, summoning the Moon Lord one minute later. Do not exit the world during this countdown or the event cancels. The rewards include Luminite blocks, powerful endgame weapons like Meowmere and the Terrarian, and unique accessories such as the Celestial Starboard on Expert difficulty.
