Pirate Invasion
When dawn breaks, the sea unleashes a horde of cutlass-wielding raiders upon your world
The Pirate Invasion is a Hardmode invasion event that causes pirate-themed enemies to spawn in place of regular enemy spawns. A Pirate Invasion can occur randomly at any dawn after certain conditions are met. It can also be summoned manually by the Pirate Map . After the event is intitiated, the Pirate Invasion starts from a random side of the world (informed by one of these two status messages : " Pirates are approaching from the west! " / " Pirates are approaching from the east! " ) and moves to the world spawn point . When the Pirate Invasion reaches the world spawn point, the status message " The pirates have arrived! " will be displayed. Event enemies can only be spawned near the location of the Pirate Invasion, or near town NPCs . See Notes for details. The Pirate Invasion is completed after killing enough enemies from it. A progress bar will be displayed to show the progression of the event. Defeating the Pirate Invasion at least once fulfills the condition for the Pirate NPC to move in. - 1 Summoning - 2 Completing - 3 Contents - 4 Notes - 5 Achievements - 6 Tips - 7 Trivia - 8 History - 9 References
Lore & Background
These invaders are no ordinary bandits; they are a disciplined force led by the terrifying Flying Dutchman, a ghostly vessel that commands both land and sea. The horde includes deckhands wielding flintlocks, crossbowmen raining death from afar, and captains who demand tribute in gold. Their presence is so overwhelming that it silences all other wildlife, replacing the natural order with the chaos of battle. To survive is to stand against a tide of silver and steel, for only by vanquishing them can one hope to secure the legendary treasures they guard, including the coveted Coin Gun that turns every fallen foe into currency.
In Their Own Story
The sun barely crests the horizon when the air grows heavy with salt spray. A message flashes in your vision: "Pirates are approaching from the east!" You rush to the edge of your cliffside arena, gripping your weapon as the familiar rhythm of world travel halts. From the mist emerges the silhouette of the Flying Dutchman, its tattered sails billowing with an unnatural wind, followed by a swarm of silhouettes marching upon the land. A Pirate Captain shrieks, raising his cutlass, while a Crossbower nocks a bolt that whistles past your ear.
You hold your ground as the horde swarms forward, coin-clinking and curses filling the air. The Deckhands fall first to your blade, but the Corsairs leap over barricades with terrifying agility. Suddenly, the spectral galleon looms overhead, raining fire from its cannon ports. You weave through the chaos, dodging the Pirate's Curse that seeks to drain your vitality, until only the Dutchman remains. With a final, desperate strike, the ghost ship shatters into a shower of gold and wood, leaving behind a treasure chest glowing with the promise of fortune as the sun fully rises on a defeated fleet.
Reader's Guide
The Pirate Invasion triggers randomly at dawn in Hardmode worlds once an Altar is destroyed and you possess at least 200 max health. You can also summon it manually using a Pirate Map if these conditions are met, provided no other invasion is active. The event begins from the world's edge and marches toward your spawn point; enemies only spawn near the invasion front or within range of town NPCs.
Prepare an arena near the center of the map with platforms to manage vertical movement against flying units like Parrots and Corsairs. The threats include ranged Crossbowmen, melee Deadeyes, and the devastating Flying Dutchman boss which spawns after 50% progress. Ensure you have ranged or magic weapons to deal with the high mobility of the horde.
Victory requires killing a specific number of enemies based on player count (180 for singleplayer). Your reward is access to the Pirate NPC and rare loot. Chase the Coin Gun, an endgame money-farming tool, along with the Lucky Coin for increased drop rates and the Discount Card for shop discounts. The Cutlass offers high melee speed, while the Barrel Launcher provides explosive area control.
