Frost Moon

A snowman moon rises to unleash a frozen war of toys and terrors

The Frost Moon is a Hardmode , post- Plantera , Christmas-themed event summoned with the Naughty Present any time at night , ending at dawn (4:30 AM). It can be summoned any time of year and does not require the actual Christmas season . During the event, unique and highly difficult enemies spawn at high rates and attack the player. It is similar to the Pumpkin Moon event, but is more difficult. Visually, the moon turns into a snowman, though remaining in its current phase . The entire event consists of 20 waves. Waves progress as the player reaches certain kill scores. After a wave's required score is met, the next wave begins, and the kill score is reset to 0. Status messages will indicate when the wave has advanced, and which wave has been achieved. See the table below for the points awarded for each enemy and the score required for each wave. Expert Mode (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) worlds will gain a 2× point multiplier and Master Mode (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) worlds will gain a 2.5× multiplier. When the event is over, the total score will be displayed by a status message: " The Frost Moon has passed! (Score: <''total score''>) " The Frost Moon event always ends at 4:30 AM. The goal of the event is to progress through all 20 waves before the event ends, although the achievement for the event is awarded at wave 15. The Naughty Present , which summons the Frost Moon, requires materials only available in Hardmode worlds where the player has already defeated Plantera (although it can still be summoned in pre-Hardmode worlds). As such, it is intended to present a challenge even to players with mid-to-late Hardmode equipment. In the final waves, multiple boss -level enemies are fought at once. Frost Moon enemies drop powerful weapons and accessori

Lore & Background

When the sun dips below the horizon and the air bites with unnatural chill, the sky bleeds white as the moon transforms into a grinning snowman. This is no mere seasonal greeting but a summons for total annihilation known as the Frost Moon. Born from the chaos of Hardmode worlds that have already tamed the jungle's wrath, this invasion tears through the fabric of night, bringing forth an army where festive cheer curdles into malice. The Naughty Present acts as the key to this frozen hellscape, unlocking waves of enemies that range from mischievous gingerbread men to towering yetis and elven archers who pierce the darkness with spectral arrows.

Unlike other celestial terrors, the Frost Moon does not wait for winter; it can be conjured at any time, defying the natural order. It is a gauntlet of twenty escalating waves where the kill count resets with every surge of violence, pushing the brave toward the brink of dawn. The event culminates in a triad of nightmare bosses: the screaming Everscream, the mechanized Santa-NK1, and the ethereal Ice Queen, each guarding treasures that could turn the tide of war or forge new legends. Yet, the true horror lies in the relentless pace; if the sun rises before the twentieth wave falls, the invasion halts, leaving only the memory of a snowman moon and the loot of those who survived the night.

In Their Own Story

You stand atop your obsidian arena as the sky bleeds into a ghostly white. The Naughty Present crumbles in your hand, and the horizon warps; the familiar lunar phase is swallowed by a colossal, grinning snowman head that watches with hollow eyes. Suddenly, the silence shatters. A horde of Gingerbread Men scuttle from the shadows, their candy-cane weapons glinting under the unnatural light. You fire your Chain Gun, the rhythmic *thump-thump-thump* echoing against the rising tide of chaos.

Then comes the Everscream, a tree-like monstrosity that howls with the voice of a thousand lost carols, raining needles from its branches. You dodge a volley of Elf Copters spinning like deadly toys, their rotor blades humming a sinister tune. The ground trembles as Yetis charge, breaking through your defenses with sheer mass. You feel the cold seep into your armor, but the Warmth Potion sustains you. Just as the twenty-second wave seems to crest, the Ice Queen descends, her presence freezing the very air around her. She is beautiful and terrible, a queen of ice who demands tribute in blood. The clock ticks toward 4:30 AM; if you falter now, the snowman moon will watch you fall.

Reader's Guide

Summon the Frost Moon by using a Naughty Present at night in a Hardmode world where Plantera has been defeated. This event consists of 20 waves that progress based on kill scores, resetting after each wave threshold is met. The difficulty scales dramatically, culminating in boss-level enemies like Everscream, Santa-NK1, and the Ice Queen appearing multiple times in later waves.

Build an arena with flat platforms and campfires for regeneration. Use Ichor arrows or bullets to lower enemy defense, as Frost Moon foes are highly susceptible to this debuff. Equip a Warmth Potion to significantly reduce incoming damage from cold-based attacks. Note that Water Candles and Battle Potions do not affect spawn rates during the event.

Prioritize killing enemies immediately upon spawning to maintain high wave progression. Focus on defeating bosses in waves 15 through 20 to maximize drop chances for legendary gear like the North Pole, Razorpine, and Festive Wings. Bosses also have increased drop rates for their respective trophies and relics in later waves, with specific chance increases at waves 17 and 19.
