Lore & Background
In the shadowed corners of Terraria's chaotic world, where slimes ooze and bones rattle, stands a solitary figure of desperate mercy. The Nurse is not born of magic or divine decree, but of sheer necessity; she arrived only after you proved yourself strong enough to survive with over a hundred hearts beating in your chest. Her clinic is a sanctuary against the relentless tide of monsters, a place where green syringes pierce the air like emerald lightning and red ones weave threads of vitality back into broken flesh.
She carries no holy symbol, only the cold weight of gold coins and the sharp sting of her trade. To her, life is a transaction, measured in copper crowns and silver shillings. She mocks your recklessness with a weary quip about chasing slimes, yet her hands work tirelessly to stitch you back together. As the world descends further into darkness and ancient evils rise from the depths, her fees climb accordingly. The harder the battle becomes, the more she demands to restore your breath, reflecting the grim reality that survival in this realm comes at an ever-increasing price.
Though she fights with syringes of venom and healing, her heart remains bound by the whims of her neighbors. Isolated or surrounded, her mood shifts like the wind, altering the cost of salvation itself. She is the gatekeeper between death and the next desperate charge into the fray, a reminder that even in a world of magic, life must be purchased.
In Their Own Story
The forest floor was slick with slime residue, your vision blurring as the poison seeped into your veins. You stumbled toward the small wooden house you had built, the door creaking open to reveal the Nurse standing amidst her jars and vials. Her eyes narrowed as she took in your battered form, a half-digested mess of armor and blood.
"You look half digested," she said, her voice sharp yet laced with a strange familiarity. "Have you been chasing slimes again?"
She did not wait for an answer. With practiced efficiency, she grabbed a red syringe that hummed with a soft, warm light. It launched from her hand, homing in on your chest before sinking deep into your skin. A rush of warmth flooded your limbs, knitting torn muscles and purging the green haze of poison. The pain receded, replaced by a sudden, fragile vitality.
"That will be three gold," she stated flatly, holding out her hand as if expecting you to argue. You fumbled for your purse, counting out the coins with trembling fingers. It was an exorbitant sum, but standing there in the dim light of her clinic, you realized that without her cold pragmatism and green needles, you would have been nothing more than another pile of bones in the dirt.
Reader's Guide
To summon the Nurse into your world, you must first ensure the Merchant is present and has moved in. Additionally, your character's maximum health capacity must exceed 100 hearts. Once a suitable vacant house exists, she will arrive automatically to offer her services.
Her primary function is healing; she restores full health and cures all active debuffs for a fee. The cost starts low but scales significantly based on game progression, defeating bosses, and the difficulty mode. In Expert or Master modes, prices are permanently doubled. Furthermore, her happiness level drastically affects costs, ranging from 75% to 150% of the base price. To maximize savings, place her in a preferred biome like the Hallow or near other NPCs she favors, avoiding solitary living which drives prices up.
Beyond healing, the Nurse is a defensive asset. She defends herself and nearby allies by throwing green syringes that poison enemies for several seconds. She can also launch homing red syringes to heal herself and neighbors for 20 health each. As the world progresses through boss defeats, her damage output and defense stats increase, making her increasingly capable of holding her own in combat.
