Stardust Dragon Staff
A celestial serpent forged from starlight to devour all foes.
The Stardust Dragon Staff is a Hardmode , post- Lunatic Cultist summon weapon that summons a Stardust Dragon minion . It flies towards enemies , dealing contact damage and dashing to catch up with its target. It can move through and target enemies through blocks . When the Stardust Dragon Staff is used more than once, multiple Stardust Dragons do not spawn; instead, the existing Stardust Dragon becomes longer and stronger (+18/+19 damage; 46% of the weapon's listed damage) for each additional summon. The initial summon spawns a Stardust Dragon with four segments, and each additional summon adds two segments. Its best modifier is Fabled . However, if the player's summon damage bonuses reach a certain threshold (including whip bonuses), the best modifier becomes Ruthless . The exact threshold varies depending on the number of summons, which is listed in Notes below. - Stardust Dragon 1 - Stardust Dragon 2 - Stardust Dragon 3 - Stardust Dragon 4 - Internal Item ID : 3531 - Internal Buff ID : 188 - Internal Projectile ID : 625, 626, 627, 628 - 1 Crafting 1.1 Recipes - 2 Notes - 3 Tips - 4 Trivia - 5 History - 6 References

Lore & Background
When the Lunatic Cultist falls and the four pillars of the cosmos shatter, the remnants coalesce into a singular, living entity: the Stardust Dragon. Born not of flesh or bone, but of condensed nebulae and ancient cosmic fire, this ethereal beast answers only to those who can command the very fabric of the stars. It does not merely fly; it weaves through the solid earth and stone as if they were mist, its four initial segments glowing with a piercing azure radiance that illuminates the deepest caverns.
Legend speaks of a dragon that grows in power rather than number, stretching its serpentine form to encompass entire battlefields. Each time its master calls upon it again, the beast does not multiply but elongates, adding two more segments of pure stellar energy with every invocation. This singular, growing titanic force becomes a river of destruction, its body capable of dashing across vast distances to rend enemies that dare to hide behind walls or flee into the night sky.
In Their Own Story
The air crackled with the scent of ozone and crushed stone as you raised the staff, your hands trembling not from fear but from anticipation. You whispered the command, and space itself seemed to warp before a brilliant blue light erupted, coalescing into the head of a magnificent dragon. It did not roar; it hummed with the vibration of distant galaxies. With a flicker of motion, it surged forward, phasing effortlessly through the thick rock wall that shielded your enemy.
The beast struck, its first four segments dealing a thunderous blow that shook the cavern floor. You did not summon another; instead, you called upon the same entity to grow. The dragon elongated instantly, two new segments of blinding starlight snapping into existence behind its head. It became a living constellation, weaving through the darkness with impossible grace. As it dashed toward its target again, leaving a trail of sparkling blue embers in its wake, you watched in awe as the single, growing monster consumed the threat, proving that one perfect guardian is worth a thousand mindless soldiers.
Reader's Guide
The Stardust Dragon Staff is crafted at an Ancient Manipulator using eighteen Stardust Fragments, which are harvested from defeating the enemies spawned by the Star Pillar during the Lunar Events. This weapon is exclusively available in Hardmode after the Lunatic Cultist has been defeated. It serves as the pinnacle of summoner builds but remains uniquely effective for hybrid characters due to its scaling nature.
Unlike traditional minions, this staff does not spawn multiple independent creatures; instead, each use of the staff extends the existing dragon's body by two segments and significantly increases its damage output. To maximize efficiency, players should invest heavily in summon damage bonuses rather than minion slots, as additional slots offer diminishing returns compared to extending the dragon's length. The optimal modifier is Fabled for general use, though Ruthless becomes superior once specific damage thresholds are met with high summon buffs.
Did You Know?
- The Stardust Dragon shares local invincibility frames across all its segments, limiting hit frequency regardless of how many parts collide with an enemy.
- Internally, the dragon's damage scaling is capped at 51 segments, preventing infinite growth even if theoretically possible.
- Three summon weapons in the game share this unique mechanic of growing a single entity rather than spawning multiple minions.
- The dragon can target enemies up to 87.5 tiles away and will teleport back to the player if its head exceeds 125 tiles.
