Daybreak
Rend reality asunder with a spear of solar fury
The Daybreak is a Hardmode , post- Lunatic Cultist melee weapon that fires a gravity-affected sun spear projectile. It sticks onto the targeted enemy upon contact, dealing damage and inflicting the Daybroken debuff , which deals 100 damage per second for a duration of 5 seconds. Up to eight sun spears can be stuck onto a single enemy at one time, resulting in 800 DPS for the debuff. When more than eight sun spears are attached, the earliest one will dissipate and cause a Solar Explosion. Additionally, a sun spear will dissipate and cause a Solar Explosion whenever it collides with blocks , when the target it is stuck to dies, or when its duration ends. Solar Explosions deal the weapon's damage and inflicts the Daybroken debuff, but cannot deal critical hits . Its best modifier is Ruthless . Since part of the Daybreak's damage output comes from the Solar Explosions which cannot critically hit, critical hit chance bonuses are less effective than direct increases in damage. - Daybreak - Solar Explosion - Internal Item ID : 3543 - Internal Buff ID : 189 - Internal Projectile ID : 636, 953 - 1 Crafting 1.1 Recipes - 2 Notes - 3 Tips - 4 Trivia - 5 History - 6 References

Lore & Background
Legend speaks of eight spears as the limit of mortal endurance; beyond this threshold, the accumulated energy becomes unstable. When too many suns cling to a single target, they do not merely burn but detonate in a blinding solar explosion, tearing through defenses with the force of a dying star. This mechanic ensures that the Daybreak is both a surgeon's scalpel for single targets and a cataclysmic force when overcharged. It stands as the ultimate expression of Solar power, distinct from its area-of-effect cousin, focused entirely on the total annihilation of one singular adversary through relentless, stacking incineration.
In Their Own Story
One becomes two, then four, then eight. Each impact sends a pulse of searing heat through your arm, a rhythmic drumbeat of destruction. The enemy writhes, unable to escape the tether of light that anchors them in place. Suddenly, the limit is reached. The earliest spear shatters, and the air rips open with a Solar Explosion. A wave of pure white fire consumes the space, leaving nothing but ash and silence. You retrieve your weapon from the cooling embers, its tip still glowing with the promise of dawn.
Reader's Guide
Maximize its potential by stacking hit counts rather than relying on critical hits. Since the Solar Explosions triggered by overstacking cannot crit, prioritize the Ruthless modifier to boost base damage directly. Melee speed boosts will increase the projectile's velocity but not its fire rate, so focus on raw damage accessories. Remember that while flasks and armor bonuses apply to the initial hit, they do not amplify the Daybroken debuff damage itself, making this weapon uniquely viable for defensive builds like those utilizing the Beetle Shell.
