Beetle armor

Ancient carapaces forge a living shield of offense or unyielding defense

Beetle armor is a Hardmode , post- Golem melee armor set consisting of the Beetle Helmet and Beetle Leggings , as well as two different chestpieces: the Beetle Scale Mail and Beetle Shell , providing offensive and defensive bonuses respectively. Crafting the full set with one chestpiece requires a total of 18 Beetle Husks and a full set of Turtle armor (54 Chlorophyte Bars (270 Chlorophyte Ore ), and 3 Turtle Shells ). Crafting all four pieces requires a total of 26 Beetle Husks, 78 Chlorophyte Bars (390 Chlorophyte Ore ), and 4 Turtle Shells. The full set grants the following effects while equipped: - +61 defense - +14% melee damage - +8% melee critical strike chance - +12% melee speed - +12% movement speed - +500 aggro - The Beetle Might offensive buff : Upon dealing melee damage to enemies, melee damage and speed is increased by increments of 10%, up to 30%. The rate at which the buff increases depends on the player's DPS . Dealing less than roughly 180 DPS will not grant Beetle Might. The buff diminishes at an accelerating rate while the player does not deal damage. - +73 defense - +11% melee damage - +5% melee critical strike chance - +6% melee speed - +6% movement speed - +900 aggro - The Beetle Endurance defensive buff : When the player does not have this buff, after three seconds, the player gains 1 beetle, providing a damage reduction of 15%. The buff will increment in strength every 3 seconds while avoiding damage, up to 3 beetles, providing a damage reduction of 45%. Each time the player is hit, the buff is decremented by one step. This buff also has a visual effect showing one to three beetles flying around the player, indicating the buff's current strength. - 1 Set 1.1 Chest variants - 2 Crafting 2.1 Recipes - 3 Notes - 4 Tips - 5 Trivia - 6 History

Lore & Background

Alternatively, the Beetle Shell transforms the armor into an impenetrable fortress. Here, the summoned beetles do not attack but circle protectively around the bearer, their numbers growing as the warrior stands unharmed. This living shield offers a reduction of damage so profound that even the Dungeon Guardian's touch might be withstood, provided the player has cultivated enough vitality and patience to let the beetles reach their full strength. It is a choice between becoming an unstoppable force of nature or an eternal bastion against the world's chaos.

In Their Own Story

The air in the temple grows heavy as you don the Beetle Shell, its dark carapace humming with a low, vibrating energy. Three spectral beetles materialize from the shadows of your armor, circling your head like guardians of old. You stand still, waiting, watching them multiply until three distinct forms dance around you, their chitinous wings casting fleeting glimmers in the gloom. The first blow comes from the lurking horror, a massive claw that should shatter bone. Instead, it impacts with a dull thud, the damage siphoned away by the invisible barrier of your companions. You do not flinch. With every second you hold your ground, the beetles grow stronger, their protective aura thickening until you feel invincible, an unbreakable monument in a world that seeks to break all things.

Reader's Guide

Choose your path wisely: the Scale Mail is for the aggressive warrior who thrives on constant combat, stacking up to 30% damage and speed increases by maintaining high DPS. Conversely, the Shell favors a defensive playstyle, rewarding patience with up to 45% damage reduction after three seconds of avoiding harm. Note that neither variant retains the Turtle armor's thorns effect or flat damage reduction, making them specialized tools rather than direct upgrades.
