Journey Mode
Bend reality to your will in this realm of infinite creation
Journey Mode is a difficulty option that can be selected during character and world creation. It provides the player access to a wide array of customization options during gameplay, including duplication of items, modification of time and weather , and difficulty sliders. Journey Mode is only accessible with Journey characters in Journey worlds (Journey worlds can only be accessed using Journey characters, and Journey characters can only play in Journey worlds). Journey Mode is intended to be Terraria 's "creative" or "tourist" mode, making it relatively easy to acquire items and explore the game's various elements and mechanics without having to overcome its normal progression of challenges; though Journey players do have the ability to adjust the game's difficulty on-the-fly to challenge themselves and test different difficulty levels. - 1 General - 2 Power Menu 2.1 Duplication - 2.2 Research 2.2.1 Complete list - 2.3 Time - 2.4 Weather - 2.5 Personal Power Menu - 2.6 Infection Spread - 2.7 Enemy Difficulty Slider - 3 Notes - 4 Achievements - 5 Tips - 6 Trivia - 7 History - 8 References
Lore & Background
In the chronicles of Terraria, a rare and shimmering dimension exists where the rigid laws of survival yield to the whims of the creator. This is the domain of Journey Mode, a sanctuary crafted for those who wish to explore the world's secrets without the scourge of premature death or resource scarcity. Here, the traveler does not merely endure the shifting tides of time and weather but commands them with a mere thought, freezing the falling stars or summoning monsoons at will. It is a realm where the harsh progression of iron and steel is replaced by the immediate mastery of research and duplication.
Legends speak of the Power Menu as a conduit to this higher plane, allowing the adept to pull duplicates from thin air once an item's essence has been studied. The very fabric of danger becomes malleable; enemies can be rendered harmless or their numbers multiplied tenfold for the sake of spectacle. Even the corruption that seeks to consume the world is held in check by a simple toggle, preserving the natural order at the traveler's discretion. It is said that only those who name themselves with the spirit of the wolf may find the ancient Lilith's Necklace waiting, a testament to the hidden secrets buried within this creative expanse.
In Their Own Story
You step into the world, not as a survivor clawing for breath, but as an architect of destiny. The air hums with potential as you raise your hand, and the sun halts its descent, suspended in a golden noon that refuses to fade. Before you lies a forest teeming with danger, yet you feel no fear. With a flicker of thought, you summon the Power Menu, a spectral interface overlaying reality. You reach out, touching the essence of a humble clay pot, and suddenly ten more materialize in your inventory, ready for construction.
A swarm of slimes oozes toward you, but you simply slide the Enemy Difficulty bar down to zero, watching them become harmless, slow-moving blobs. The wind howls, threatening to scatter your plans, so you adjust the weather slider until the gale becomes a gentle breeze. You are not bound by the grind of mining or the agony of death; instead, you research the very concept of wings, instantly gaining the ability to soar. In this moment, Terraria is no longer a fight for survival but a canvas where you paint with time, weather, and matter, crafting your own legend without a single scar.
Reader's Guide
Journey Mode begins with a distinct advantage: new characters start equipped with upgraded tools like the Iron Pickaxe and Axe, alongside unique gear such as the Fledgling Wings and the Finch Staff. Your primary goal is to research items to unlock the ability to duplicate them indefinitely. To do this, place items into your inventory's special research slot by holding Shift and clicking, or by overwriting them in the trash slot once you have enough copies for full research.
Once an item is fully researched, it can be duplicated instantly via the Power Menu, granting you infinite resources for building and combat. Utilize the Time menu to freeze days at your preferred hour or accelerate time to skip nights quickly. Manage the weather to prevent storms or summon rain for fishing quests. As you progress, toggle Godmode for invincibility during construction or increase enemy spawn rates to farm materials rapidly without fear of death.
For combat experimentation, adjust the Enemy Difficulty Slider to scale challenges from half damage up to ten times the normal intensity. This allows you to test boss strategies safely or create intense survival scenarios at will. Remember that research progress is tied to your specific character, so new avatars must re-research items. Use the Infection Spread toggle to stop the Corruption and Hallow from consuming your world while you build your empire.
