Guide:Walkthrough

From forest floor to underworld depths, a logical path through chaos

When progressing through Terraria , many players can be confused about where they should go and what they should do next. Terraria is an open-ended game: Players are not forced to go anywhere or do anything. You are free to set your own goals and follow through with them, whether you are a builder, fighter, explorer, collector, or whatever else. This walkthrough merely aims to provide a logical order of progression through Terraria' s many different biomes , generally in order of increasing difficulty. It is recommended, but there is certainly no requirement to visit each biome, or even in this order if you don't want to. When choosing a map size, consider what experience you want out of your playthrough. A small world allows for quick exploration and easier traversal of difficult biomes early on, but can also feel limited, and may be missing certain rare items. A medium world allows for longer exploration and will have more items overall, but difficult biomes will be harder to traverse early on. A large world is best suited for multiplayer, or as a world that you intend to spend a lot of time on. - Issues: Most likely outdated since 1.4 . - Please do not use this guide. Lore & Background

In the boundless expanse of Terraria, where the wilds refuse to bow to order, the Guide stands as the silent architect of progression. He is not a warrior, but a weaver of knowledge, appearing in the verdant forests where new souls first draw breath. While the world offers no forced path, only the open sky and deep caverns, he whispers the secrets of crafting and the rhythms of survival. His wisdom transforms raw timber into shelter and copper ore into the first defenses against the creeping dark.

The forest itself is a gentle teacher, teeming with slow green slimes and rare goblin scouts that mark the outer edges of civilization. Here, surface chests hide the bones of ancient explorers, offering wood, metal bars, and potions to those brave enough to pry them open. Living Trees rise like stone sentinels, their hollow hearts guarding unique looms before leading adventurers down into the earth's belly. The Guide knows that every biome holds its own trial, from the sun-drenched meadows to the fiery underbelly of the world.

Though his counsel was once etched in stone for a younger age of Terraria, the essence of his guidance remains: build your base before the moon rises, gather your strength, and face the King Slime or the Eye of Cthulhu with purpose. He understands that a small world offers swift trials while a vast one promises endless discovery. Whether you seek to summon the Old One's Army or tame the Queen Bee, his voice echoes through the ages, reminding players that in this open-ended realm, your journey is yours to define.

In Their Own Story

You wake to the chirping of crickets and the soft rustle of leaves, standing on grass that feels impossibly green under a rising sun. Before you stands the Guide, his expression calm amidst the looming threat of nightfall. He speaks not of glory, but of survival: cut the trees, craft the bench, build the walls. You listen, your hands already moving to fell an oak with a crude copper axe. The forest is alive; slimes bounce in the distance, and you feel the weight of the unknown pressing against the tree line.

As dusk bleeds into twilight, you rush to finish the small house, placing that final torch to banish the shadows. Inside, the Guide nods, his silhouette framed by the window as he watches you secure your first night's safety. Tomorrow, the caves call. You find a rope coil near a cave mouth and descend, heart pounding, into the earth. The air grows cool and damp, and somewhere deep below, the Eater of Worlds stirs in its slumber. But for now, you are ready, guided by the simple truths whispered by the man who knows the way.

Reader's Guide

Begin your journey in the Forest biome, prioritizing resource gathering over combat. Chop down trees immediately to craft a Work Bench, then forge a Wooden Sword and Bow with Flaming Arrows for early defense against slimes. Explore surface caves for chests containing useful gear like the Wand of Sparking or Aglet, and mine grass with a Blowpipe to gather seeds for farming.

Construct a valid NPC house before nightfall to ensure the Guide remains safe. Expand your housing to accommodate future arrivals; the Merchant requires 50 silver coins, while others have specific conditions. Use ropes and platforms to navigate vertical caves safely, or craft an Umbrella from found items to prevent fall damage during exploration.

Progress by defeating early bosses in a logical order: King Slime for practice, followed by the Eye of Cthulhu, then choose between the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu depending on your world's evil. Prepare for the Underworld late in Pre-Hardmode to gather Hellstone and craft better gear before facing Skeletron and the Dungeon.

Consider your map size carefully; small worlds offer quick traversal but fewer rare items, while large worlds are ideal for multiplayer or long-term projects. In Journey Mode, utilize power settings like time control and item duplication to accelerate early progression. Always prioritize building a base that can house NPCs, as their services are vital for crafting potions and advanced equipment.
